✨Congratulations to the class of 2026!✨

This week we said goodbye or see ya later to our favorite brand new attending EM physicians.

They’ve laughed with us, cried with us, and taught us some pearls along the way. We are so proud of each of you and look forward to watching you all shine!

Happy Orientation to the UICOMP Emergency Medicine Class of 2029!

They have been having so much fun meeting all of our ED staff, taking tours of the hospital, preparing their critical care resuscitation skills, and setting the foundation for the rest of their training.

We managed to sneak them away for some good old fashioned bonding time at our Annual Intern Pool Party hosted by our APD, Dr. Tudor.

We shared great food and good laughs with our interns and their families. Looking forward to a fantastic year watching them learn and grow with the rest of our Emergency Medicine family!

The Wilderness Medicine Track recently had the chance to help the UICOMP Medical Student Wilderness Medicine Interest Group work through outdoor scenarios involving hypothermic arrest, anticholinergic toxidromes, and traumatic injuries. It was a great opportunity for our residents to teach, sharpen their skills, and get some fresh air along the way! 🌲🩺

As we embark on Match Week, many residents find themselves reflecting on the moment they first learned where their journey with UICOMP would begin. This week is filled with uncertainty, marking the culmination of four years of medical school with long nights and countless exams all with the hope that everything would fall into place.

Watching this year’s medical students prepare to open their envelopes Friday brings us back to that anxiety-filled time. We remember the nerves, the anticipation, and the moment everything changed.

Match Day isn’t just about where you go—it’s about the journey that brought you there and the people who supported you along the way.

To the future residents: trust the process, celebrate every step, and know that you are exactly where you’re meant to be. We are eager to meet the UICOMP class of 2029!

✨Ultrasound with UICOMP EM ✨
Ultrasound education is led by fellowship-trained core faculty Dr. Tremwel, who guides residents through a longitudinal, hands-on POCUS experience from Day 1.

🔹 PGY-1: Orientation ultrasound training, a 2-week ED ultrasound rotation, sim sessions with standardized patients, and tons of on-shift scanning.

🔹 PGY-2: Longitudinal scan shifts with continuous bedside scanning and mentorship.

🔹 PGY-3: Another dedicated 2-week rotation focused on advanced scanning and teaching opportunities with Dr. Tremwel.
All scans are uploaded directly to QPath, where Dr. Tremwel provides image review, quality improvement, and individualized feedback.

UICOMP EM is committed to graduating physicians who are confident, competent, and ultrasound-forward.

🎃Happy Halloween from the UICOMP Residency 👻

The residency gathered for another legendary annual Dr. Hafner Hosted Halloween Journal Club!

🧸 Interns came to infinity and beyond as the Toy Story crew — and took 1st place in the annual costume contest! 🏆
🧅 Second years brought the laughs (and layers) as the Shrek squad — swamp vibes and all.
📅 Third years embodied Calendar Holidays, celebrating every occasion including Bob Ross’ favorite Arbor Day.

From spooky snacks to up to date literature discussions, it was a frightfully fun night of learning and laughter. Huge thanks again to Dr. Hafner for hosting and to everyone for bringing their A-game!

🚒 EXTRICATION DAY with East Peoria Fire Department 👩‍🚒

Our UICOMP Emergency Medicine residents had an incredible hands-on training day with East Peoria FD! We dove into real-world prehospital extrication techniques, learning how first responders safely remove patients from vehicles and other entrapments in trauma scenarios during that golden hour. ⏱️

We also covered critical HazMat protocols, including donning and doffing suits, indications for level of suit needs and decontamination procedures for various chemical, physical and biological hazards. 🧼☣️

Huge thanks to East Peoria Fire and our REMRT colleagues for sharing their expertise and for the opportunity to train side-by-side with the professionals who keep our community safe.
