Today was an exciting day at MFCCC! WHOI ABC News came to surprise one of our teachers with the One Class At A Time award!

Mrs. Jenny from the Sunshine Room won the award and though they couldn't visit her classroom, we were able to surprise her and her class outside on the playground today!

Mrs. Jenny received $1,000 from WHOI ABC and Cefcu to use in her classroom!

Watch for her story on the 5:30pm news broadcast next Wednesday, April 28th.

Congratulations, Mrs. Jenny!
Good news! We have extended our Virtual Usborne Book Fair through the end of November!

Though we can't hold our normal in-person book fair due to COVID-19 restrictions, you can still access all of the wonderful, engaging and educational books that Usborne has to offer.

Usborne's books make wonderful Christmas gifts and they can be shipped directly to you or to the child in your life!

50% of the total sales come back to our center in the form of free books for our classrooms!

You can shop here: www.findusborne.com and click on the link "Methodist Childcare."
Happy Halloween!

This month teachers decorated their classroom doors for a door decorating contest to celebrate Halloween!

We need your help to pick a winner. Each classroom is labeled in the comments. "Like" your favorite doors! The classroom with the most "likes/loves" will win!
We had a great time with some socially distanced trick-or-treating today. Each classroom "paraded" through the center with their own individual class to visit each door and get some goodies.

A big thank you to Ms. Teresa, Ms. Amber, Ms. Jenny, Ms. Carol, Ms. Tina, Ms. Shermell and Ms. Mariah for planning a safe, Covid-friendly trick-or-treating event and for decorating the commons and hallways complete with decorations, lights and Halloween music to make it festive and fun for the children.

Thank you to all the teachers for their hard work coordinating costumes and accessories to take their children trick or treating today and who decorated their classroom doors for our door decorating contest. (Stay tuned for pictures of their doors to vote and help us pick some winners!)

Thank you to the parents for all the great candy donations! We so appreciate the help!

We hope you all have a safe and happy Halloween weekend!

Yesterday, staff recognized Ms. Janet with a retirement celebration. Ms. Janet will be retiring after almost 21 years of service to MFCCC and UnityPoint Health - Methodist to enjoy more time with her children and grandchildren. We will definitely miss her but we are also happy and excited for this next adventure for her. Tomorrow, Friday 4/8 is her last day with us.

If you see her, be sure to congratulate her!

Just a reminder: Cards for a Cause orders are due Thursday, September 12th.

Cards for a Cause Fundraiser

It is time again for our Cards for a Cause fundraiser. This year we have 5 different card boxes to choose from. Each box contains between 30 handcrafted cards (The holiday Card Collection Box contains 50 cards!) and each box is $30 per box. That’s $1 or less per card! There are all types of cards – birthday, anniversary, new baby, get well soon, engagement, thank you, holiday, etc. There is even a box of just kids birthday cards and box of “Thanks and Blanks.”

We’ve set up one of each box in the commons for you to look through at your convenience to see the quality and selection of the cards in each box. MFCCC receives $13 from every box purchased! These funds go into our parent steering committee fund to help us pay for special activities and projects like family nights, new bikes for the playground, the new laminator for our teacher resource room and much more.

You should have received an order form in your child’s classroom today. Orders and checks are due by Thursday, September 12th. Please make checks payable to MFCCC. Cards will be delivered approximately 2 weeks later. If you have any questions, please see Julie Harms or Sarah Schertz.

Thank you for supporting MFCCC!

Tonight we celebrated one of our teachers at the Heart of Illinois AEYC's 3rd annual Children's Champion Celebration.

Mrs. Jenny Gilmore-Hocking was nominated by her peers to be the 2019 IL AEYC Children's Champion for MFCCC. Here are just some of the positive things they had to say about Mrs. Jenny.

Jenny goes above and beyond with her curriculum planning. She sets up different interest centers each month like a flower shop, vet clinic, post office, etc. Jenny uses communication notebooks for every child in her classroom. She writes in them each and every day to let parents know how their child's day was. At the end of the year, they get to take it home and have a memory of each day in her classroom.

Jenny meets the child where they are and differentiates behavior strategies that best suit the needs of each child. She communicates clearly with parents to partner in making each child successful. Jenny stands by, stands up for, lifts up and cheers on her coworkers. Her love surrounds the entire room.

Jenny does an amazing job with the children and works with them one-on-one. For Jenny, the children always come first in every way. She has a real passion and love for teaching and for every child.

Jenny documents and displays classroom activities and learning for families to see on bulletin boards to help them better understand the learning they are doing and the importance of early childhood education.

Jenny believes in the importance of social emotional education for young children and diligently teaches our second step lessons and skills to help children understand and deal with strong emotions.

Jenny is a child advocate. She is excellent with children with special needs. She supports parents with advice and ideas and is requested again and again by parents. Jenny is a passionate, loving, nurturing teacher. She sets clear expectations, interacts professionally with parents and coworkers and she backs up her teaching with studies and research showing the importance behind what she is doing.

Jenny Gilmore-Hocking is truly a Children's Champion! Congratulations to Mrs. Jenny and thank you for all you do for the children you serve!
