Tomorrow, July 31, Peoria Unified will be closed as all staff are on a furlough day. During a furlough day, all district schools and worksites are closed to the public, employees do not work and are not paid.

Last November, the community did not approve the override funding for our schools, resulting in a loss of approximately $11 million from this year's operating budget, or our maintenance and operations fund. This, coupled with declining enrollment has caused the district to cut a total of $21 million from our current budget. One way the budget shortfall will be addressed is with three furlough days this school year: July 31, February 12 and May 12. These furlough days will result in an average pay decrease of 1.5 to 1.7% for all staff members.

All school and district offices will reopen for normal hours on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, for the first day of school.

Hi everyone, my name is Paige Sommerville. I will be teaching 4th grade this year and I am so excited to join the Lake Pleasant team! I was born and raised in Washington and attended Central Washington University in where I received my Bachelors in Elementary Education. I come from a family where both my parents are educators and love that I also followed their footsteps. My fiancé and I moved to Arizona last year and we have been loving all the sunshine down here! Some of my favorite things include golfing, boating on the lake, snowboarding, Starbucks, and traveling to go back and spend time with friends and family! I am so excited to start this school year and can't wait for all the great things to come!

My name is Itati Trejo, and I am so excited to be joining the Lake Pleasant Elementary family! I was born and raised in California, but Arizona became my home.

I have always had a passion for helping others. I originally planned to pursue a career as a probation officer, but teaching found me. I love creating connections with students, helping them build confidence, and supporting them reach their goals.

Outside of school, my favorite moments are spent with my family. My partner and I have two energetic boys who keep life exciting! We enjoy spending time by the pool, cheering on basketball games, and having family dance parties while watching Sesame Street (especially Cookie Monster videos).

When I get a little downtime, I enjoy relaxing, doing some online shopping, watching a good documentary, or binge watching Law and Order SVU with my partner.

I look forward to meeting you and your children and making this school year a wonderful experience!

Hello LP community! My name is Lisa Weiss and I am excited to be the preschool Speech Language Pathologist at Lake Pleasant Elementary. I look forward to working with your children this year! I have been an SLP for 33 years; primarily with Birth to Five/early intervention. This will be my third year here in PUSD. I am originally from Buffalo, New York but have been out here in Arizona for 33 years. I live in Peoria with my husband and dog and have three adult children. Outside of school, I enjoy hiking, Pilates, reading and traveling. I look forward to an amazing school year!

Hello! My name is Annie Parish, and I am excited to joining Lake Pleasant Elementary as a Resource Teacher this year. I’m passionate about helping students grow, build confidence, and reach their goals.

A little about me: My husband and I are Arizona natives and are excited to now be living on this side of town. Outside of school, I enjoy baking, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with my dog and cat.

I’m looking forward to getting to know our students, families, and staff and becoming part of this wonderful community. I can’t wait for a great year ahead!
