To celebrate CTE Month, Peoria Unified students worked with the City of Peoria, Arizona Government on a community service engagement project in a neighborhood in Peoria. District office staff in the CTE Department and 85 students from four Peoria Unified high schools painted, spread rocks and pulled weeds for multiple houses in a neighborhood near Sun Valley Elementary School as part of the City of Peoria Neighborhood Pride Project.
Students that participated in this community service project are from Cactus High School, Centennial High School, Liberty High School and Peoria High School and are involved in a variety of CTE programs, including: Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), SkillsUSA, Air Force Junior ROTC (AFJROTC), Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), and the Medical Engineering and Technology (MET) Professional Academy.

The Peoria Unified School District held their annual District Spelling Bee on Thursday, Jan. 27 where top spellers from across the district competed in front of their peers. The winner of this year’s Annual District Spelling Bee is Ethan Greenwood from Coyote Hills Elementary School. Greenwood won in the 12th round with the word “quinary."
The seven runners-up include:
Archer Hill from Apache Elementary School
Jackson McLean from Lake Pleasant Elementary School
Brian Fielder from Sun Valley Elementary School
Aidan Clark from Desert Harbor Elementary
Vinh Le from Parkridge Elementary
Gerald Sanchez from Oakwood Elementary School
Julia Bergner from Heritage STEAM Elementary School
These eight exceptional students will compete in the Maricopa County Region IV Spelling Bee hosted in February. The winners of the Regional Bee will move on to the state-level Arizona Spelling Bee in March followed by the Scripps National Spelling Bee held in Washington, D.C. in the summer of 2022.

ParentSquare will be used for us to send out school, district and community updates. This is a different tool than ParentVUE, which is used to check your child’s attendance, grades, etc. Both are valuable for families to have to be engaged in your child’s educational career.
ParentSquare has a free app which you can download, which will allow you to customize your notification settings to select when and how you will receive updates, and it can also let you select your language preferences. While downloading the app is preferred, it is not required for staff or families to still receive district or school-related updates.
