Great weekend for LIONS Tennis! Congratulations to Lucy Del Carlo (2026) on 2nd place in the USTA L5 18’s Doubles Tournament and to Matthew Tenn (2024) on 1st place in the USTA L5 18’s Mixed Doubles Tournament.

We had our 2022 LIONS Tennis Christmas Party today: great tennis (26 players), followed by a player Secret Santa gift exchange, a parent white elephant gift exchange, great food (shout out to AZBBQ for donating our sides) and Coach Hew’s gifts to players (LIONS slippers and Xmas candy)…

Lady Lions playing in a L6 Halloween Doubles Tournament at PHX Tennis Center. Lucy Del Carlo (2026) & Brooke Morton-Holmes (2024) won their consolation group (3-1 record). Ellie Ray (2024) and Sofia Salvato (2024) had 3 close matches (1-2). So proud of Victoria Chavez (2026) played in her 2nd tournament, with a random partner and finished 2-1.

Another great tournament weekend for Lady Lions! Melody Erickson (2025) won the 16’s consolation bracket and Beth Simpson (2026) came in 2nd place in only her 2nd tournament.

A successful day for Lady Lions and H.I.T. Academy players! Lucy Del Carlo (2026; LHS) lost 4-6, 4-6 in the consolation quarterfinals of her 1st L5. Melody Erickson (2025; LHS) won 2 consolation matches today (6-4, 6-1; 6-2, 6-0) to reach the 16’s Consolation Semifinals tomorrow at 8am. She’ll play Sasha Tijore (2025; HIT Academy), who won a tough quarterfinal match 7-5, 6-3. Congratulations to Sophia Tijore (2027; HIT Academy) for winning her L5 Playoff 3-4 match 6-1, 6-0.

A very busy day for 7 Lady Lions Tennis players! Melody Erickson (2025) and Lucy Del Carlo (2026; played singles and mixed doubles - was on court for 7.5+ hours today) played in a L5 at Scottsdale Ranch Park. Sofia Salvato (3rd place; 2024), Ellie Ray (2024) and Miley Lynch (3rd place; 2025) played a L7 at Kiwanis Tennis Center (Tempe). I’m most proud of Beth Simpson (2026) and Victoria Chavez (2026), our 2 beginner freshman players, who also played in their 1st USTA Tournament (L7)! 129 days till 1st day of tryouts and 146 days till our 1st match!

A great day for H.I.T. Academy and Lady Lions Tennis! Miley Lynch (2025) placed 1st in her 16u USTA main draw flight. Lucy Del Carlo (2026) took 2nd in her 16u USTA main draw flight. Sophia Tijore (2027) won her 16u USTA main draw flight. Great showing by Kylie Redding (2023), Kaylee Webb (2024), Sasha Tijore (2025) and Finley McCrery (2027). A great weekend for our Lady Lions! Started Friday night with a Tailgate catered by AZ BBQ. This morning, 20 players honing their skills playing singles and doubles getting ready for upcoming USTA Tennis Tournaments in 2 weeks… LOVE the commitment…

I believe I found out Varsity #1 Doubles team in Lucy Del Carlo (2026) and Brooke Morton-Holmes (2024)… I also found 3 strong contenders for varsity spots: Ellie Ray (2024), Sofia Salvato (2024) and Miley Lynch (2025). Team is shaping up nicely for 2023 season: 1 Team, 1 Dream! We>Me!

Lady Lions playing in a USTA L6 Tournament out in Gilbert. Day 1: Sofia Salvato & Melody Erickson lost but have consolation rounds starting tomorrow. Miley Lynch beat a BYE and Lucy Del Carlo beat the #1 seed 8-2 and then won a tough Quarterfinal match 9-7. She plays her semi-finals at 3p tomorrow (going to be another hot one)… Day 2 begins at 7am for Kylie Redding and Toni Pasciuti and then at 9am: Sofia Salvato, Melody Erickson and Miley Lynch.

Lady Lions played hard today in a very tough draw in the 2022 AIA Individual State Tournament. Melody Erickson (Fr) won her 1st round match but lost her 2nd round match. Sarah Harris (Sr) & Brooke Morton-Holmes (Soph) fought tough but lost to the #1 seed. Sarah Samuel (Sr) and Estella Cender (Jr) also played hard but lost to the #2 seed.
