This private voice studio is dedicated to the nurturing of well-rounded musicians. Welcome to the page for my private studio!
Lessons focus on vocal technique, building repertoire, music theory, and sight singing. I'm Ashlie Schlatweiler, a recent graduate from Bradley University with a degree in Music Education. I am in the process of building a private studio, where I focus on helping budding young musicians develop and hone the skills to become well-rounded musicians. Private lessons focus on the following:
Vocal Tec
hnique
Students will work on various vocal and breathing exercises to develop the fundamentals of healthy singing. These skills must be well established so they may act as the foundation for singing pieces from their repertoire. Building Repertoire
Students will learn a wide variety of repertoire (Art Songs, Classical, Broadway etc.). It is important that they spend plenty of time learning the notes and rhythms of the piece before we work on the style of the piece. Students should not be discouraged if we spend more than a week on each piece. Music Theory
Students will build a basic understanding of music notation (note names and rhythms), clefs, key signatures, etc. It is important that students be able to identify and understand these aspects in music in order to better understand how music is composed, and thus, make it easier for them to learn. Sight Singing
An important skill for students to develop is the ability to sing a piece of music without having heard it before. It will help students better understand how melodies are written and how the accompaniment functions with those notes. Sight singing is often a requirement for competitions and auditions, including IMEA District/All State auditions.
