ACTEAZ was invited to the table with U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling. It was great to hear him recognize that workforce development must be purposeful and begin well before graduation, with strong high school CTE and middle school hands-on experiences. Career exploration and preparation should start early, connect to purpose, and give students a clear path to their future. Thank you West-MEC for inviting ACTEAZ to this important discussion.

Mining is part of Arizona’s history—but it is also part of Arizona’s future.

The announcement of more than $180 million for mining education and workforce development is an important investment in preparing students for careers as metallurgists, geologists, mining engineers, and other skilled professionals. For Arizona, this matters. Mining remains an iconic part of our state’s identity and continues to provide meaningful, family-sustaining careers for Arizonans today. The industry has evolved tremendously, and so have the skills and technologies required to power its future. This is exactly where Career and Technical Education (CTE) can make a difference: connecting students to real careers, industry needs, and opportunities to build a future right here in Arizona.

Investing in mining education isn't simply investing in an industry. It’s investing in Arizona students, Arizona families, and Arizona’s economic future.
