One World, One People, an exhibit by renowned photographer Arnold Newman (1918 – 2006), was a culmination of portraits he made of significant individuals over the course of his career. Spanning six decades of work, from the early 1940’s to the present, this collection contains public figures, from artists and entertainers, to philosophers and politicians. play. Arnold Newman is regarded as one of the most dynamic American photographers. The exhibit provided visitors with a unique opportunity to view a monumental body of work that places the most influential Jewish leaders of the 20th century in their own environments. While each portrait by Arnold Newman reveals its subject’s personality in a way no words on paper ever could, at heart, they are simply fascinating works of photographic art. This exhibit was the first chance to see Arnold Newman’s work in Portland since his death in June, 2006.
