Today's Topic will cover ammunition selection. There is a vast supply of different types of ammunition available for purchase. Whether it is for hunting, target, recreational shooting, personal or home defense selecting the correct ammunition is critical. We will break this down further into groups. Just like with firearm selection the ammunition selected will be decided by intended use. If we are target or recreational shooting, we are selecting ammunition that will be reliable and cost effective. Selecting cheaper full metal jacket (FMJ) ammunition will lower the cost. This allows for more training time and time on the range to better your shooting skills. If you are selecting ammunition for hunting or defense against animals. The correct bullet with the correct construction of the bullet will be the deciding factors. Hunting ammunition depending on the size class of animal will fall under a few bullet types. These types consist of jacketed soft point, jacketed soft nose hollow point, jacketed hollow point, or hard cast lead. The lighter the animals structure the lighter the Contruction of the selected bullet, the heavier the animal the heavier the construction of the selected bullet. Personal defense and home defense ammunition fall under two categories. This topic is never talked about much. Shallow penetrating and deep penetrating ammunition. If you are in an urban area, place of business, or out and about in a densely populated area ammo selection is very important. Over pe*******on is a real danger in enclosed and populace areas. Bullet pass throughs injuring innocent people are a very real risk without proper bullet selection. In these situations, we want to carry shallow penetrating ammo (10 to 15 inches) to limit pass through possibilities. In a home defense situation, deeper penetrating ammo does not pose the same threats, it is also sometimes more effective inside and outside the home when barriers may be present (auto glass, doors, ETC.). Selecting bullets that travel 15 inches or more is not a bad option if the layout of your home or area is safely away from other homes. There are many places on the web to view ammo testing. One of the best is the Lucky Gunner ammo testing at LuckyGunner.com. They have a vast ammo testing database from almost every caliber handgun. Reviewing these tests can give you the best understanding of ammo performance to fit your intended purpose. Bullet travel depth and bullet expansion are the two most important factors in ammunition selection. Our goal is to give everyone a better understanding of ammunition selection for intended purpose. There is no one bullet fits all application or purpose. Thanks Everyone and We Hope You Enjoy
