This summer Cadance has been spending her days diving right into her field! She's been serving as an Archaeology Intern at Fort King National Historic Landmark. Her internship has brought a combination of lab work, identification, and public archaeology. Cadance says her favorite part has been being able to continue practice in her field of historic archaeology. She also enjoys being a role model to students that come in for field trips, and piquing archeological interest in guests. We are excited to have her back on campus soon, but love seeing all the great experience she's been gaining over the summer!

This summer FGL Scholar and future health care professional Savannah has been given the incredible opportunity to shadow Dr. Vernon from Baptist Health Care! See what Savannah has to say about the impact of her experience so far:

"For pre-med students, shadowing a physician is one of the most important ways to truly understand the realities of healthcare. This summer, I was fortunate enough to secure an incredible opportunity to step inside the medical world firsthand. Shadowing Dr. Vernon, a general surgeon, gave me an invaluable look at the many aspects of patient care. Beyond observing surgery, I was able to see Dr. Vernon’s interactions with patients, other physicians, and the healthcare team, which demonstrated the importance of communication, compassion, and collaboration in providing excellent care. Watching the surgeon’s technical skill, decision-making, and dedication to patient care reinforced my commitment to medicine and gave me a deeper appreciation for the responsibility and privilege of caring for others. I was especially grateful for how enthusiastic he was to have me shadow him and for the time he took to explain procedures, answer my questions, teach throughout the day, and for inviting me to future shadowing opportunities. This experience has strengthened my passion for pursuing a career in medicine and reinforced my desire to one day provide the same level of care and mentorship to others."

Keep up the great work Savannah!

✨️It's time to wrap up the FGL Feature Fridays for the academic year with the one and only Claire!

"Hi! My name is Claire Smith and I am studying psychology at the University of West Florida. When I'm not studying or at work, you can find me at home with a new craft project in hand or outside appreciating our beautiful city. So far, my favorite thing about the program has been having the privilege to travel to see what leadership looks like in different places. I look forward to the years to come, but I especially look forward to mentoring future scholars."

We love having Claire as a Fredric G. Levin Scholar!
