Something special is taking shape for The Raq Room R***e... ✨

"Lamma Bada Yatathanna" (لما بدا يتثنى) is one of the most famous and enduring pieces in Arabic musical history. Originating in Moorish Spain (al-Andalus), this beloved muwashshah is revered for its haunting melody, poetic depth, and unique rhythmic structure.

One of our own Emerald Coast Belly Dance students, Crys, has been learning this beloved melody on violin, and we'll be bringing that music to life through live dance and improvisation at The Raq Room R***e on June 27. 🎻💃

This collaboration beautifully reflects the themes of Dawn Guinn's workshops earlier that day. In Music Appreciation, we'll explore the rhythms, structure, and musicality that help dancers connect more deeply with MENAHT music. In All Things Taqsim, we'll dive into the fluid, emotional, interpretive side of dance often inspired by musical improvisation.

There is something magical about the conversation that happens between musician and dancer—listening, responding, and creating together in the moment. The Raq Room celebrates those moments, welcoming dancers, musicians, and cultural artists from Middle Eastern and other world traditions to share their artistry with one another and with our community.
