Our school had the unique opportunity to participate the Ignatius Book Battle, a pilot program geared toward Catholic schools with a quiz-bowl competition based on a curated list of book. The Ignatius Book Battle came with the challenges of time constraints and uncharted waters. Fourteen 4th & 5th graders and nine middle school students rose to the challenge, with our middle school team bringing home the trophy, solidifying all their hard work and dedication!

This year we added an additional reading challenge to our Accelerated Reader program. Any student who doubled the highest AR goal for their level would be invited to a secret off campus lunch with a surprise guest planned by Mrs. Hodge. Thirty kids rose to the challenge by doubling - and in some cases, tripling - their goals. On Monday those students were rewarded with a trolley ride to Flounders on the beach, where they got to play and eat and hang with Bishop Bill. This group of thirty kids earned 4,552 AR points and combined read 31,773,039 words. We’re so thankful to get to celebrate and reward these kids for their hard work!

Today we celebrate Coach Young, who received the Bishop’s Award for his quick actions and calm leadership when a student began choking during lunch earlier this school year.
Without hesitation, Coach Young stepped in to help and made a frightening situation end safely. His willingness to act in a moment of need reflects the care, courage, and dedication we are blessed to have in our school community every day.
We are grateful for Coach Young’s example of servant leadership and proud to recognize him for this well-deserved honor. Congratulations, Coach Young!
