The client with Type 2 diabetes mellitus presents with decreased feeling in thier bilateral lower extermities. To prevent client injury, which is for the discharge plan?

A. Check the client's feet daily for abrasions or changes in appearance.
B. Always wear socks no matter what the temperature is
C. Soak the client's feet in hot water every night
D. elevate the lower extermities on pillows when in bed

ANSWER TO THE QUESTION OF THE WEEK:
Answer B. The client's religious beliefs prohibit him from consuming pork products. He is firmly expressing a concern about the potential conflict of medicine and his religious beliefs. Option B is correct, as the rabbi may be able to advise the client on the medicinal use of pork products according to the Jewish faith. Answer A is not the best option, as the family may posses the same opintion as the client. Answers C and D are incorrect as the client's cultural/religious needs are totally being ignored. Perhaps all the client may need is the approval from his rabbi to assure that his faith philosophy is not violated.
