The Organization was founded in 1954 to promote a means to celebrate Carnival. The 300 Krewe members enjoy a strong bond between themselves, as well as their families. Krewe of Lafitte fills the parade routes with 12 lighted floats all built & maintained by the members & housed in 2 warehouses owned by the Krewe. Two of the 12 floats are used for traveling to 7 out of town parades, ranging from Gulfport, Mississippi to Bradenton, Florida. The Krewe also participates in 3 other local parades including an illuminated Christmas Parade for children. The activity doesn’t stop with parade routes; they also float around to schools, assisted living facilities, and retirement homes spreading cheer and happiness. During Christmas, Mardi Gras & Fiesta Parades, the Pirates of the Krewe of Lafitte will man the floats and take to the streets of downtown Pensacola. The Krewe has been hosting the lighted Fiesta and Mardi Gras parade since 1954 at no cost to the community. The parade will follow the downtown parade route starting at Spring and Garden Street, traveling down Garden Street to Palafox, then turning north on Palafox Street going to Wright Street and making a loop around and continuing south on Palafox Street to Government Street where it concludes. The themed seven seas lighted floats are manned by majestically dressed masked men throwing beads, and trinkets from above to open hands of parade goers along the downtown parade route. In our parades there are Local Krewes as well as Ft Walton, Crestview, and Mobile Krewes. Krewe of Lafitte has achieved what they set out to accomplish, by bringing citizens of the community together in a celebration atmosphere for Christmas, Mardi Gras, & Fiesta of Five Flags.
