What happens when you put the right people in the room together?

Over the past several days, Gulf Coast Diplomacy connected four AI professionals from India with Northwest Floridians working in technology, entrepreneurship, education, cybersecurity, research, and other fields through the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).

For our community, those conversations meant new professional connections, an exchange of ideas with international counterparts, and opportunities to showcase the expertise that already exists in Northwest Florida.

The local impact extended beyond the professional appointments.
Twelve Youth Diplomats learned more about artificial intelligence and the people working in the field while taking early steps toward workforce readiness. They practiced asking thoughtful questions, communicating with professionals, and sharing their own perspectives.

At our Exchange Café, eight Northwest Floridians joined the conversation, expanding the exchange beyond the formal program schedule.

At Science Night Live at the Pensacola MESS Hall, 40+ community members gathered and explored AI through hands-on activities alongside the IVLP participants.

This is why we work to make international exchange something that happens with our community, not simply in it.

Northwest Florida has expertise worth sharing. International professionals bring perspectives and experiences that can benefit our community in return. Gulf Coast Diplomacy puts those people in the room together.

That’s diplomacy with a hometown return.

Our AI exchange doesn’t end with professional meetings. We want our community in the conversation, too.

This is what Youth Diplomats looks like in action.

Today, our Youth Diplomats are spending part of their Saturday with four AI professionals from India who are in Pensacola through the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. Their national program was arranged my Meridian International Center.

They’ll have the opportunity to learn more about AI and the people working with it, ask questions about the participants’ work and lives in India, and share their own perspectives as American teenagers. Then we’ll turn the tables with Three Questions, Many Answers, giving everyone a chance to ask, answer, and get to know one another.

For our students, experiences like this bring international affairs closer to home while also taking some early steps toward workforce readiness. They learn about an emerging field directly from professionals working in it, practice asking thoughtful questions, listen to different perspectives, and build confidence communicating with professionals from around the world.

Youth Diplomats in action means local high school students learning about the world, the future of work, and their own place in both.

Two Exchange Cafés. Two international conversations. One seat at the table for you.

Cohort 10 comes back together this weekend, and we have a full morning ahead.

Today, we remember September 11, 2001.

We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the families whose lives were forever changed, and the first responders and ordinary Americans who acted with extraordinary courage that day.

We also honor the men and women whose service in the years since has helped protect our country and our communities.

Twenty-five years later, we remember.

Why an Exchange Café?

When an international exchange comes to Pensacola, the professional schedule may include meetings with five or six local organizations, but we want more of Northwest Florida to have the opportunity to participate.

Our Exchange Café brings local professionals and community members together with international exchange participants over coffee. There are no presentations and no formal agenda, just introductions, questions, conversation, and the opportunity to make connections. That matters because international exchange shouldn't benefit only the people traveling on the program.

An Exchange Café gives more Northwest Floridians a seat at the table. It also gives exchange participants the opportunity to meet Americans beyond their scheduled professional appointments and hear a wider range of perspectives from our community.

Sometimes, a conversation that begins over coffee becomes a professional connection that lasts well beyond Pensacola.
