It is with deep sadness that Penn Hills School District shares the passing of Officer Joseph "Ramir" Lewis-Hicks, our Assistant Director of School District Safety and Security.

A retired police officer and devoted leader, Officer Hicks put the safety and well-being of students and staff above all else. He was a steady presence, a compassionate protector, and a role model whose legacy of service will never be forgotten.

As he often reminded us: “We make a living by what we get. But you can make a life by what you give.”

Grief support services will be available at Penn Hills High School for students and staff. We encourage anyone in need of support to reach out as we honor and remember Officer Hicks.

🎉 Prom 2025 is almost here!

Tickets will be on sale from Wednesday, May 7, through Friday, May 9, during all lunch periods at the cafeteria concession stand. Tickets are $90 each. To purchase, students must bring payment along with a completed Safe Prom Contract and Permission Slips.

UPDATE:

While it was previously communicated that all fines and obligations must be cleared before purchasing prom tickets, due to last week's unforeseen circumstances, obligations will not be checked at the time of ticket purchase.

However, all obligations must be paid in full by May 30th. Failure to do so will result in your senior not receiving their cap and gown on June 2nd. If you're unsure whether any obligations are outstanding, please contact the High School Main Office as soon as possible.

Important: All financial obligations must be paid in full by Tuesday, May 6 in order to purchase a ticket. No ticket sales will take place after Friday, May 9—no exceptions!

The Penn Hills School District will be closed on Friday, May 2, 2025, as recovery and repair efforts continue in the district and across Western Pennsylvania. Allegheny County is under a state of emergency, and we realize Tuesday's storm damage has caused uncertainty for so many people in our community.

In an effort to ensure that district families - especially those in need - are fed over the weekend, the district's Food Services will be distributing meals on Friday.

The Penn Hills High School will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for meal distribution. Students, parents, and community members, especially the elderly, are welcome.

We also realize that some families may not be able to travel to the high school to receive food. Therefore, we have organized pop-up food distribution centers that will operate from 11 a.m. to Noon on Friday. These meals will be first come, first served. They will be distributed at the following locations:

- Hulton Arbors, 815 Arbor Lane, Verona, PA 15147
- Linton Middle School, 250 Aster Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15235
- Hope Center (former Jehovah's Witness Hall), 7901 Dollman Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235

The district is committed to supporting everyone in the community, especially those affected by storm damage. We hope to welcome students and staff back to the classroom as soon as possible.
