Great turnout and even better conversations 💛

Monday’s Penfield SEPTA Parent Meetup was filled with connection, honesty, and so many moments of shared understanding around the table. This space continues to remind us that we’re not alone in navigating this journey—and that matters more than anything.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared, listened, and supported one another. And a big thank you to Pizza Chef on Whitney Road for helping make it all possible 🍕

If you’ve been thinking about joining us, we’d love to have you next time. Bring a friend ✨

✨ HAPPENING MONDAY! ✨

Join us for our Penfield SEPTA Parent Social this Monday, April 20 from 6–8 PM at the Penfield Rec Center (Large Group Room) 💛

Parenting children with disabilities, learning differences, and higher support needs can feel isolating sometimes — and this night is all about changing that.

Come unwind, connect, and spend time with other parents and caregivers who truly get it. Whether you stay for 20 minutes or the full two hours, this is an easy, open-house style evening to build community, share experiences, and simply be with people who understand.

BRING A FRIEND!!! ❤️

🍕 Pizza + refreshments provided thanks to our community partners at Pizza Chef on Whitney Road
✨ Open house style — come and go as it works for your schedule
💬 New to the district? Longtime parent? You belong here.

Bring a friend who may need this too. We’d love to welcome them.

We’d love to see you this Wednesday, April 8, at 7-8PM at our General Meeting as we come together to reflect, dream, and shape what’s next for our community. We’ll be meeting at Bay Trail Library, and will have a zoom option available for those that cannot attend in person. REGISTER at our website penfieldSEPTA.com for Zoom or via this link: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/KGfHiNk_QpyxsxfqFr03Rw

This month’s meeting is all about YOU and what our families need most moving forward. We’ll be talking about:

✨ What’s worked this year

✨ What hasn’t worked (and where we can do better)

✨ Teacher and staff recruitment + engagement

✨ Fall programming ideas and speaker topics

✨ How we continue building connection across the district

Most importantly — bring a friend. If you know another parent, caregiver, educator, or community member who cares deeply about supporting students with disabilities and learning differences, we’d love to welcome them.

No Placement…. No Program…. Now What? Tutoring in New York State

When students cannot attend school or an appropriate program is unavailable, tutoring is often the only means of access to education. In New York State, tutoring is frequently used—but often inconsistently applied, misunderstood, or delayed— leaving students without meaningful instruction.

This session focuses specifically on tutoring in NYS: what it is, when it must be provided, how it differs from home/hospital instruction, and what schools are required to do when students are seeking an appropriate placement. Intended audience includes parents, educators, students, & community members.

Brought to you by: The Special Education Task Force

Presenters:
Parent Attorney Jane Gabriele,
Student Attorney Laura Marks
School Administrators Lynn Carragher, Rachel Hawkins & Monica Stadler
Parent Rebecca Efigenio
