Very excited to attend Eastwood’s 2026 Graduation Ceremony today to officially present Superintendent Hughes with a plaque to be hung in EHS.

It’s a reminder that GREAT THINGS CAN HAPPEN WHEN WE RECOGNIZE A NEED AND CHOOSE TO FILL IT WITH TALENT, KNOWLEDGE AND THE CHOICE TO SERVE.

Happy 40th Birthday to the Eastwood Education Foundation.

We recently gathered for our final quarterly meeting, a time of year when the original founders of the EEF join current members to connect, reflect, and look ahead. This meeting allows us to provide updates on our yearly milestones while seeking the advice of our founders to ensure we stay true to our core mission.

We had the pleasure of Bob Bruning, Jim Keiser, and Nigel Davies (with his wife, Trudy) joining us.

Some of the annual highlights include:
• Voting in a new trustee (Jennifer Kuhlman).
• Noting that in 2025, we awarded $70,828 from our scholarship donors to EHS graduates.
• Awarding $5,550 in mini-grant funding for special curriculum and programs.

We also presented a plaque to the founders to celebrate our 40th anniversary and to honor the work they set in motion. We will formally present the plaque for hanging in the high school's main entrance during the 2025–2026 graduation ceremony. (Look for it now, as it is getting used to its new home already).

Thank you to Teri for bringing custom cookies to the meeting to celebrate.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation and congratulations to Ellen Walston for her 12 years of dedicated service to the Eastwood Educational Foundation.

While her presence always brightened our meetings, it was her deep community knowledge and attention to detail that defined her service.

On behalf of our scholarship recipients, trustees, volunteers, partners, and donors, we thank you, Ellen, and wish you the very best.

We had our quarterly meeting last week. Some of the highlights included:

1. Eastwood’s new Superintendent Brian Hughes joined as a guest and eas given an overview of the foundation.
2. The treasurer’s report neared our total entrusted funds at $999.2K! We are going to cross a major milestone.
3. We are looking to fill a trustee’s position whose term is expiring and are collecting names from our trustees to rank and offer membership to our team. 😀
4. Approximately $5,500 was awarded to mini-grant applicants! District educators planning special programs and going the extra mile for our students have an opportunity to ask for this assistance.

The next meeting is in November

The meeting held this evening was a success. Our investment portfolio is nearing the $1M threshold. The founding members who were present expressed their support of our goal to carry on their mission and our success at further advancing the Foundation.

We also revealed to the Founding members of the Foundation our intention to acknowledge their accomplishments by establishing a permanent plaque in the main hallway of Eastwood High School by 2026 --pictured are: Karol Poth and Bob Bruning. We intend to name each of original founders, Robert Bruning, Nigel Davies, Mitchel Freeman, Joseph Hirzel, Rolland Huss, Marion Layman, Lester Poggemeyer, Karol Poth and John Schulte to recognize their contribution to the students of Eastwood Schools; the design is pending and contingent upon approval and placement of appropriate facility planners. 2026 denotes the 40th year since the inception of the EEF.

The Eastwood Educational Foundation meets Tuesday evening in the Middle School Library at 6:30 PM. We start with our Annual meeting where we recap the year for our founding members and then roll into our normal business as usual agenda.
