Some lessons cannot be learned from a textbook.
On Wednesday evening of this week, members of the EHS International Club attended a community presentation by Holocaust survivor and “hidden child,” Helen Marks, held at Perrysburg Junior High School.
Listening to Mrs. Marks share her story was a powerful reminder that history is not distant, it lives in the memories and voices of those who experienced it. For our students, the evening offered something truly meaningful: the opportunity to witness living history and reflect on the courage, resilience, and humanity that carried one individual through unimaginable circumstances.
For a club dedicated to global citizenship and cultural understanding, moments like this are invaluable. Experiences like these help students connect the past to the present and deepen their understanding of empathy, responsibility, and the importance of standing against hatred and prejudice.
At the conclusion of the presentation, students also had the opportunity to briefly speak with Mrs. Marks. Watching her engage with them, listening to their questions and sharing quiet moments of conversation, was deeply moving and inspiring. It was a powerful reminder of the impact that personal stories and human connection can have on young people.✨🦅✨
