Pelham Oaks Elementary

School safety is a year-round priority in Pelham City Schools. 💚

Last week, Pelham City Schools staff and our School Resource Officers attended the TAASRO Safe Schools Conference to learn, collaborate, and strengthen school safety practices. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Dorann Tanner was also selected to participate in specialized Project Unite training, a national initiative focused on proactive school safety, prevention, and early intervention.

The learning doesn't stop when the conference ends. We'll continue to plan and work together to ensure our schools remain safe and supportive for students and staff.

My name is Mrs. Culverhouse, and I am thrilled to join the first grade team this year at Pelham Oaks. I have taught in the Birmingham area for over 20 years after earning my degree from Samford University. I am married and we have three children. In my free time, I enjoy traveling and supporting my kids with their talents. I cannot wait to start this new year of learning together!

Hello, POES Family!

My name is Michelle Ocampo, and my family and I have been proud residents of Pelham for nearly three years. We have four wonderful children—three girls and one boy—who keep life fun and busy!

I am excited to get to know all of you and support our school community. I am happy to connect with families in either English or Spanish (¡Sí, hablo español! And willing to learn other languages).

A little about my background: I earned my bachelor's degree in Psychology and my master's degree in Counseling from UAB. This upcoming school year will mark my seventh year in education, and I look forward to working alongside our students, families, and staff.

I can't wait to meet everyone and be part of a great year at POES!

Hello! My name is Gracie Augustine, and I am incredibly excited to join the Pelham Oaks family! I am a fourth year teacher and proud UAB alumni. I have a deep love for learning, and when I’m not at school, my favorite things to do are go hiking, playing pickleball, or paddle boarding at Oak Mountain. See you next year!

Hi, everyone! My name is Sarah Hartley, and I recently graduated from the University of Montevallo after spending two years at Birmingham-Southern College earning my degree in Elementary Education. I am so excited to begin my teaching career at Pelham Oaks Elementary School teaching fourth grade next year! Pelham Oaks already feels so special to me, and I cannot wait to build relationships with my students, grow as an educator, and become part of the POES family.
