โœจCelebrate our seniors! ๐ŸŽ“

Earlier this month, we were thrilled to honor so many of our soon-to-be graduates at the annual PMHS Senior Awards Ceremony. Throughout this incredible evening, students were recognized with scholarships, prestigious school and department awards, and unique community recognitions that celebrate their hard work and dedication.

From academic excellence and world language mastery to fine arts brilliance and athletic heart, our students truly shined. ๐ŸŒŸ

A beautiful highlight of the night came directly from the students themselves. In a special, heartfelt moment, the senior class took time to recognize retiring Chorus Teacher Maria Abeshouse by presenting her with the annual School Spirit Award! Thank you, Ms. Abeshouse, for filling our schools with music and joy for so many years. ๐ŸŽถโค๏ธ

We want to extend a massive and special thank you to all of the local community organizations, dedicated high school faculty, school leadership, and generous scholarship funds that make these opportunities and recognitions possible for our students each year.

Dear Pelham Families,

Due to the extreme heat today and predicted high temperatures tomorrow, Colonial, Prospect Hill and Siwanoy schools will dismiss at 12pm tomorrow, Friday, June 12, 2026.

Hutchinson, Pelham Middle School and Pelham Memorial High School will operate on a regular schedule and normal dismissal time.

Please know that each school has specific cooling plans in place to manage hot weather. Unfortunately, when temperatures remain consistently above 90 degrees, the use of our window air conditioners and other mitigation strategies are not sufficient to keep classrooms at a satisfactory temperature.

Fortunately, Colonial, Prospect Hill and Siwanoy are each slated to have central air conditioning installed beginning next summer, which will make high temperatures much more manageable.

I appreciate your patience and understanding as we seek to do whatโ€™s best for the safety and health of our students and staff.

Sincerely,

Cheryl H. Champ, Ed. D.

Superintendent of Schools

๐ŸŽต A Magical Night of Music, Growth, and Heartfelt Goodbyes! ๐ŸŽถ
This past May, our school community experienced something truly special at the annual PMHS Spring Concerts. From the high-energy rhythms of our jazz and concert bands to the breathtaking symphonic melodies of the orchestra, our high school musicians absolutely blew us away!

Beyond the beautiful notes, what we really witnessed was a masterclass in growth, dedication, and perseverance. Seeing students from all grade levels hone their crafts and collaborate so beautifully reminds us of the power of music to build confidence and connection. ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ‘‰ A Very Special Tribute This yearโ€™s PMHS Chorus performance brought a few happy tears to the house. The evening celebrated the final concert of our longtime, beloved Director, Maria Abeshouse.

To honor her incredible legacy, PMHS alumni traveled back home to join current students on stage for a moving performance of โ€œHallelujahโ€ by Leonard Cohen. But the surprises didn't stop there! The audience was treated to a secret, heartfelt rendition of โ€œJoyโ€โ€”a song produced by Mrs. Abeshouseโ€™s husband, Adam. Making the moment even more magical, our district's own music teachers stepped on stage to provide the instrumental accompaniment!

A huge shoutout to our amazing educators who modeled what lifelong community and teamwork look like: Band Director Andrew Van Bochove, Orchestra Director Raffi Froundjian, Elementary Orchestra Director Marcia Bean, Elementary Band Director Andrew Dolgon, and Elementary Music Teachers Rami Vamos and Steven Salvatore.

Congratulations to our phenomenally talented students, our dedicated teachers, and our returning alumni.

And to Mrs. Abeshouse: Thank you for a legendary career dedicated to educating, inspiring, and building lifelong connections with our children. You have left an indelible mark on our hearts! ๐Ÿคโœจ

Step back in time! ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธโœจ Our Prospect Hill second graders brought history to life at this yearโ€™s Annual 2nd Grade Wax Museum!

From legendary athletes and groundbreaking scientists to world leaders and iconic artists, our hallways were filled with pure inspiration. Visitors got to meet incredible figures like Gandhi, Benjamin Franklin, Frida Kahlo, Sonia Sotomayor, Lionel Messi, and Harry Houdini. The twist? These famous figures only "sprang to life" when a patron dropped a penny into their cup! ๐Ÿช™ Drop a penny, hear a story!

Check out the full scoop on this incredible student project:
Learning in Action: Students spent weeks researching their chosen historical figures, writing detailed biographies, and practicing their public speaking skills.

Giving Back: Thanks to your generous loose change, our 2nd graders raised a grand total of $151.40! The students have decided to donate 100% of the proceeds to wildlife preservation charities. ๐Ÿป๐ŸŒฑ

A massive thank you to our phenomenal second-grade teachers for organizing this unforgettable tradition, and to the families who came out to support our young historians. You all made this event a huge success!

Needless to say, they absolutely delighted our audiences of proud family members, friends, and community members! ๐Ÿ‘โœจ

โœจ Celebrating Culture, Community, and Talent! โœจ

Our middle and high school students experienced an incredible celebration of culture on May 21, thanks to a fantastic collaboration between the Mandarin Program and the PMHS Asian Club! In honor of AAPI Heritage Month, our school community came together for two spectacular cultural arts performances.

๐ŸŽญ The Highlights:
Students were mesmerized by a traditional, high-energy Sichuan Face-Changing performance!

Our own talented students took the stage, showcasing beautiful traditional and contemporary singing, dance, and instrumental acts.
The energy in the room was absolutely electric! โšก Our students loved seeing different Asian cultures proudly represented on stage.

Beyond the amazing entertainment, the event fostered a deep sense of community and belonging, with many students already asking how they can get involved in the next event!

๐Ÿ™Œ A Massive Thank You! This meaningful experience wouldn't have been possible without the incredible generosity of the Pelham Education Foundation (PEF). Thank you, PEF, for sponsoring this program and continuously enriching our students' education!

Take a look at some moments from the day! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ“ธ

๐Ÿ“ฑโœจ Keeping Our Kids Safe Online: Actionable Tips for Pelham Families! โœจ๐Ÿ“ฑ

In a world where technology is always changing, staying ahead of digital safety can feel overwhelming. Earlier this year, Pelham parents and staff came together for an incredibly eye-opening "We Are Pelham" parent education session with digital parenting expert Sarah Gallagher Trombley (founder of Digital Mom Media and former Snapchat executive).

Whether your kids are playing video games, texting in group chats, or asking for their first social media accounts, Sarah shared realistic, actionable advice for K-12 families.

Here are a few powerful takeaways from the presentation:
๐Ÿ”น The "Open and Notorious" Texting Policy: Keep device use out of bedrooms! Sarah recommends requiring all texting and gaming to happen in shared, public spaces at home so parents can easily pop in.

๐Ÿ”น Start Social Media Slowly: Thinking about letting your child try an app? Download it on your phone first. Watch how notifications come in and see what features they care about before moving it to their own device.

๐Ÿ”น Beware of "Hidden" Chats: Cyberbullying frequently happens in elementary school group chats, and online in-game chats (like in Roblox or Fortnite) leave kids highly vulnerable.

๐Ÿ”นRemember the Opportunity Cost: When kids get wrapped up in screens, they miss out on real-world experiencesโ€”being outside, nature, and face-to-face friendships.

Building digital safety isn't about banning technology entirely; it's about setting boundaries, using the right parental controls, and navigating it together.
