https://www.hopespringsinstitute.org/events-1/what-the-season-leaves-2026-09-14-19-00Autumn has always known how to edit. Sprawling summer green stripped to bare branches. The long slant of afternoon light making the world look different than it did just months ago.

This fall, Hope Springs Institute invites you into that same practice of compression with What the Season Leaves, a four-week virtual writing course exploring poetry and flash nonfiction, harvesting big thoughts and feelings from small images. Each week pairs readings of short contemporary works with generative writing exercises and space to share with your cohort.

Facilitated by Lindsay Way, four Monday evenings beginning September 14, 7:00–9:00 PM EDT.

Sliding scale investment: $100 | $175 | $265 β€” choose what honors both your resources and this work.

Relationships don't maintain themselves. Neither does community.

Both need the small, unglamorous, often inconvenient acts of tending β€” the check-in that takes five minutes but that you keep putting off. The willingness to show up when it doesn't fit neatly into your schedule. The choice to stay in the discomfort of a real conversation rather than retreat into pleasantries and move on.

We live in a culture that talks about community constantly but rarely slows down enough to actually build it. We follow each other. We like each other's posts. We share the same values, the same aesthetics, the same general sense that connection matters. And then we wonder why we still feel so alone.

Real community, the kind that holds you when things fall apart, that challenges you to grow, that shows up with food and presence and honesty when you need it, doesn't happen by accident. It happens because people tend to it. Consistently. Over time. Without always knowing what they're building.

The Hope Springs community gives, answers surveys, gathers, and holds this place in their hearts. That community exists because people have been tending it for thirty years. One relationship at a time. One shared meal, one circle, one honest conversation at a time.

The mandala, the fire circle, and the shared meal are acts of tending. They're how we remember that we belong to each other.

This week, we're asking: Who in your life is asking to be tended? And what would it look like to show up for them, not perfectly, not dramatically, just presently?

We'd love to hear what comes up for you. 🌿

What becomes possible when we let ourselves dream beyond survival?

Roots & Horizons is a gathering space for q***r folks to reconnect with the resilience and wisdom of the past to build our boldest futures.

In this workshop, we'll connect with the work of our q***r ancestors, not only those we're biologically connected to, but the chosen kin, cultural trailblazers, and unnamed lives whose courage carved out space for us to exist. Through guided reflection, readings, and creative exercises, participants will be invited to tap into these lineages as a source of inspiration and turn toward the horizon together.

This workshop is open to q***r, trans, and gender expansive people of all backgrounds.

πŸ’› Scholarships are available, no one who needs this space will be turned away.

There’s a reason humans have always sung, to the land, to each other, to whatever we can’t otherwise name. Make a Joyful Noise, returning to Hope Springs Institute August 28-30, is built on that instinct.

This is a retreat for singers and non-singers alike: chanting, soundings out in nature, morning and evening singing, and time to simply rest into community.

No musical experience is needed,
just curiosity and a willingness to create sound and share joy with others.

There's a particular kind of stillness that only comes from time outdoors. The kind where your shoulders drop before you've noticed they were tense, where your thoughts slow to the pace of the wind moving through trees.

The land has a way of teaching us things our minds alone can't grasp. It asks for nothing, and in that asking-for-nothing, it gives us permission to simply be.

This is the territory we'll explore together in Rewilding Inner Knowing, a virtual workshop with facilitator Amy Tuttle. Through guided reflection and contemplative practice, we'll explore what it means to move beyond conditioned patterns and return to a deeper, more embodied sense of self.

πŸ—“οΈ Tuesday, August 4th
πŸ•‘ 6:30 – 8:30 PM ET
πŸ’» Virtual β€” no travel needed

You don't have to be standing on this land to feel its teaching. You just have to be willing to listen. We hope you'll join us.
