An Open Invitation to Paso Owners

This is an olive branch to the Paso owners who have felt left out.

To the owners who do not believe fino should define the standard for an entire breed. To those who love their horses but do not need ribbons to prove their value. And to the owners who have quietly wondered whether there is still a place for them in the Paso community.

There is.

American Paso is an open invitation to anyone looking for a home. Maybe you already belong to a registry. Maybe you do not. Either way, you are welcome here.

So, how will this work?

First, we will put the foundation in place: a constitution, a transparent rulebook, an accountable board and a meaningful public-comment process. The people this organization exists to serve deserve a voice in how it is built.

At the same time, we will develop a completely free, independent registration platform where owners can document their current Pasos and register future generations.

Free, however, does not mean without standards.

We will establish and publish clear eligibility, pedigree-verification, correction and appeals processes. Not every horse will automatically qualify. The credibility of a registry depends on the integrity of its records, and we intend to build something owners can trust.

Our goal is to create something lasting—an institution that is relevant, useful and guided by ethical horsemanship. Something that cannot be bent to satisfy the opinions or interests of a select few.

A better way to Paso.

Building it correctly will take time. While that work continues, we will keep publishing articles and videos, sharing our progress and asking for your feedback. We do not claim to have every answer, but we are committed to listening, learning and building openly.

We are not here to tear anything down.

We are simply creating another avenue for the Paso owners who have felt overlooked, unheard or without a place to belong.

You have a voice now.

And we are listening.

Who’s ready for a content-packed weekend? 👀

As this project nears completion, we can’t wait to continue giving you a sneak peek at everything we’ve created.

Happy Hollow is becoming one of the most beautiful and unique private evening experiences you’ll find—perhaps anywhere.

There is truly nothing else like it in our region or across Appalachia. This experience is the culmination of travel across the country, extensive market research into what people genuinely want, and countless personal stories and thoughtful touches woven throughout.

This weekend, we’re pulling back the curtain even further.

Stay tuned—there is so much more to see!

For the Paso Fino owners and farms who have followed Happy Hollow’s advocacy journey, we want to share some important updates.

First, you have probably noticed that the Happy Hollow page has become much more farm-focused.

That is intentional.

We are creating an entirely new experience here at Happy Hollow—a place where we can welcome you, host your events, celebrate your milestones, and create meaningful experiences for you and your horses.

Second, you may have noticed fewer advocacy posts and articles appearing on this page.

The advocacy has not stopped. It has moved—and it is growing.

Our articles, initiatives, and breed-wide advocacy now have a dedicated home on the new American Paso page.

For years, we have talked about what we believe should change within the Paso world. We tried working within the existing system. We tried creating change from outside it.

In the end, we reached a simple conclusion:

It is time to build our own system.

One shaped by you. One informed by the tens of thousands of reactions, comments, messages, and responses we have received from Paso owners across the country.

Moving forward, we are dedicating 100% of our advocacy resources, sponsorship funding, and breed-development efforts to American Paso.

What will you find there?

You will find recreational riding events with opportunities to earn real prize money.

You will find leaderboards that recognize what horses and riders accomplish beyond the show ring.

You will find versatility programs, trail initiatives, educational resources, and opportunities designed for the owners who have too often been treated as an afterthought.

You will find a growing community built around ethical horsemanship, meaningful recognition, and the real-world versatility of the Paso.

Over the coming months, you will hear far less from us about what “the association” should be doing.

Instead, you will see what we are doing.

The time for asking others to create change is ending.

The time for building it ourselves has begun.

American Paso: Advocacy into Action.

Almost 30 years ago, the first Paso Fino pranced across the grounds of Happy Hollow.

We’ve been fascinated ever since.

But what drew us to them?

At first, it was the beauty and the mystery.

Paso Finos are, to us, among the most elegant horses in the world. They have a presence that is difficult to describe until you stand beside one—a personality you feel almost instantly.

They are thinkers. Seekers. Curious and incredibly aware.

You can see it in their eyes.

But when you climb into the saddle, that’s where the real magic happens.

There is something almost mechanical about the natural cadence of a Paso Fino—like turning over the engine of a powerful car and feeling it come alive beneath you.

Over the years, we’ve heard plenty of assumptions about the breed.

They’re too small.

They’re not horses for the average rider.

They’re just show horses.

And we would challenge anyone who believes those things to simply ride one.

Because there is a true magic to the natural cadence of the Paso Fino. There is an unadulterated joy in watching someone experience their first corto and suddenly realize what all the fuss is about.

It’s the hum of that Paso engine.

The rhythm.

The smoothness.

The feeling that there is something very different happening beneath you.

It adds an element to riding that you simply will not find anywhere else.

So when we reopened Happy Hollow, we decided to do Pasos differently.

We didn’t want to build a farm where these horses existed only behind stall doors or inside a show ring.

We wanted to bring their magic to people.

Happy Hollow was designed as a place where someone who may have never heard of a Paso Fino can spend an evening on the hillside, watch these horses move through the farm, meet them up close, hear their story and, hopefully, leave fascinated by them too.

Because the Paso Fino in the United States faces a real challenge.

Its footprint has been shrinking.

We believe preserving this breed requires more than simply breeding more horses. It requires creating more people who fall in love with them.

That means education.

It means visibility.

It means introducing the Paso Fino to people outside the traditional horse world.

And it means giving people an opportunity to experience what captivated us nearly three decades ago.

Of course, there is much more to Happy Hollow than horses.

It’s a place to gather. To celebrate. To slow down. To enjoy the farm, the hillside, the patios, the trails and the people you’re with.

But there is no denying that the Paso Fino is woven into the heart of this place.

Nearly 30 years after that first Paso walked onto our farm, we’re still fascinated.

Now we want you to understand why.

Come meet the Paso Fino.

We have a feeling you’ll understand the moment you do.
