CALM of NEPA.   Cultivating Awareness by Living Mindfully CALM of NEPA provides mindfulness training to help reduce stress, anxieties, and fears. CALM of NEPA provides a mindfulness course taught by Phillip Sallavanti.

It is adapted from the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program developed by Jon Kabit-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment, on purpose and without judgement. Simply put, its being here now with an attitude of openness, curiosity, and kindness. CALM of NEPA provides you with tools and proven techniques to help reduce tension, reduce pain, reduce anxiety, recognize signs of stress and to choose healthy responses to stressful situations. Phillip is qualified to teach three new mindfulness classes, Eat Right Now Craving to Quit smoking, and unwinding anxiety. He trained under the programs developer Dr. Judson Brewer Director of Mindfulness Research, The Center for Mindfulness, University of Massachusetts Medical School. Phillip has studied Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at the Mindfulness Institute, Thomas Jefferson University Medical Center in Philadelphia. He studied and trained under the tutelage of its director Diane Riebeil PhD. Phillip has received individual supervision while teaching several MBSR classes. He is certified to teach mindfulness courses for children and teenagers developed by Gina Biegal (Stressed Teens) and Dr. Amy Saltzman (The Still Quiet Place). He has also studied with Tara Brach who designed a program to help understand and reduce fear. Working closely with teachers and administrators through the Northeast Intermediate Unit 19 providing workshops and classes for several school districts in Lackawanna County . He has also provided workshops and classes for the Commonwealth Prevention Alliance Conference, Allied Services, Office of Youth and Family Services, Dickinson Center, Lackawanna College Students and staff, Behavioral Health Services of Somerset and Bedford Counties,The Pennsylvania Counselors Association, Rehabilitation and Community Providers Association (RCPA), Commonwealth Prevention Alliance (CPA), Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services (DATS), Riverside Middle School, The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC), The Wright Center, University of Scranton, Marywood College, Elm Park Church, Visiting Nurses Association (VNA), Employment Opportunities & training Center (EOTC), Serenity Wellness. CALM of NEPA ( Phil Sallavanti) will be offering a free Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction special Holiday drop in class on Tuesday December 9th. From 6:30-8:00. The event will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus, Holy Family Hall 1101 Willow St. Peckville, Pa.
These drop in sessions provide a taste of the fundamentals of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Course, which has been shown to reduce anxiety, depression, and pain, and to improve well-being. Through meditation and awareness exercises, we will explore this practical time-proven approach to living fully in the present moment that has helped thousands of people achieve greater balance, vitality and health.

We start at 6:30 and end at 8:00.
I am so grateful for everyone who attended the last mindfulness class. Over 30 people attended. I learned a great deal. That’s Why I love the circle. We all become teachers and students.
