TRIO Upward Bound Alumni Association

Hiya UB TRIO alums! For those of you who don't already know I work for a sister program of Upward Bound, a TRIO Talent Search Program that provides college prep services to a combined 500 Waianae and Nanakuli High School students. Across the nation TRIO Programs including Upward Bound and Student Support Services Programs are being threatened by forthcoming legislation. I am currently in Washington, D.C. along with 700 other TRIO professionals to advocate on behalf of all TRIO Programs. We met with Senator Hirono yesterday (who is a staunch TRIO supporter and a previous UB employee) as well as a rep from Representative Gabbard's office (also a TRIO supporter). Now more than ever... TRIO needs your support.

I am compiling a booklet of TRIO success stories. Current TRIO directors can provide the data proving but it's really your success stories that showcase the importance TRIO Programs have had on our lives. After doing a side project for B.E.A.C.H., we took our UB students to Waimea Valley to have lunch, an hour of community service and follow it up with swimming at the watefall.

Our UB students volunteering for a non-profit organization called B.E.A.C.H. (Beach Environmental Awareness Campaign). An organization that collects trash and properly disposes them from our beautiful beaches.
