As we are entering a new school year, Giles County Public Schools would like to remind families to make sure their child's immunizations are current and that all required health documentation is on file.

Virginia requires students to have appropriate immunizations for school attendance. If your child needs updated or additional vaccines, please contact your child's healthcare provider or the Giles County Health Department.

🩺 New to Giles County Public Schools?
If your child is a new student to Giles County Public Schools and is entering public kindergarten or elementary school for the first time, Virginia law requires a school entrance physical examination completed by a qualified healthcare provider.
The physical must be completed within 12 months before the child first enters public kindergarten or elementary school.
πŸ“„ Need the School Entrance Health Form?
The Virginia Department of Health provides the required School Entrance Health Form (MCH213G) and other school health forms online.

As part of our Child Find responsibility under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Giles County Public Schools conducts annual student screenings each fall.
These screenings help us identify students who may benefit from additional support and ensure that we are meeting the needs of every child

There is no cost to families for these screenings.
Screenings are conducted by our school nurses, speech-language pathologists, and other trained staff in accordance with Virginia school health guidelines.
If your student needs follow-up based on their screening results, you will be contacted by the school.

It's almost time for back to school!!! Please make sure your kiddos are ready for a healthy start back! Make sure to provide your child's up to date vaccination record to his/her school nurse prior to the first day of school, along with an up to date physical if they are starting Pre-K, or K, OR they are new to Giles County Public Schools We can't wait to see you!!

Congratulations to all of our Giles County Public Schools !! Sudden cardiac arrest requires immediate action, and the school nurses at each school have ensured that they are ready to respond! With the guidance of Project Adam, Giles County Public Schools have developed cardiac emergency response plans~ along with well appointed cardiac emergency response teams. Great job nurses: Tanya, Peggy, Morgan, Mindy, Lora, Tammy, and Tori! And a special thank you to Dr. John Phillips & Lexi White with Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU
