In addition to the numerous other things Mrs. Vaden does for the students of Giles County, she also teaches all Tech Center students Workplace Readiness classes. During these classes students learn about the workforce and job opportunities within our county and surrounding areas. They learn the importance of a professional cover letter, and resume as well as important tips for a successful job interview. Upon the completion of this class Mrs. Vaden arranges a mock job interview using some local professionals that are willing to volunteer their time for the workforce of tomorrow.

Our Practical Nursing Phase 1 students have been very busy the first complete week of school! Students learned how to properly put on and take off personal protective equipment during lab time.
Also, Carilion Clinic visited various schools to distribute nursing equipment kits needed for clinical training to each first-year student. Our students received a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, pin light, and a special note from Michelle Franklin, the Chief Nursing Officer of Carilion Clinic. Thank you Carilion for thinking of our nursing students!

Thanks again to Carhartt's "For the Love of Labor" program. Carhartt is providing $25,000 to purchase equipment, textbooks, and certification testing to begin implementing the NCCER Core and Carpentry program. Meeting Thursday, April 9th at 6:00 PM

Giles County Public Schools is proud to announce a youth registered apprenticeship opportunity through Giles County Administration and the towns of Narrows, Pearisburg and Rich Creek that will begin in the 2026/27 school year. Giles County Administration has been recognized as a Youth Registered Apprenticeship sponsor through the Commonwealth of Virginia. There are three different opportunities for students:
Water Operator Trainee
Wastewater Operator Trainee
Field Operations – Utilities Construction and Water Distribution Technician
All three of these professions are in high demand locally and nationally. The three-year program will include a paid on the job training component. The program will start for students in the 11th grade and students must be 16 years of age at the start of the program. 10th grade students will be receiving an email from our career counselor, Tonya Vaden, in the next few days with more details to begin planning for this opportunity.
A parent and student informational meeting will be held at the Giles County Technology Center on April 9th at 6:00 PM. Please come out to hear more about this wonderful opportunity.

GCTC would like to congratulate A’Kaysha Bates and Breigh Lindsey for competing in the Virginia HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) Conference. These students placed 5th in the state for their project on Health Education of Body Dysmorphic Disorder. Congratulations ladies!

On Wednesday, April 1st, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students from Giles and Narrows High Schools will have the opportunity to take part in a career fair hosted by the Giles County Administration and the Giles County Technology Center. The career fair will be held in the Narrows High School gym during the school day. Students will be able to speak with over 40 local business and industry leaders that represent career pathways listed below. This will be one of a few activities that will assist 10th grade students as they prepare their two-year academic plans this year and a great way for 11th and 12th grade students to make connections with local employers for potential careers. We are looking forward to this event and the connections that will be made to assist with your student’s future career.
Transportation will be provided for Giles High School students. If you would like to opt your student out of this event, please contact you High School’s office.
