McDowell Home Sweet Home

McDowell Home Sweet Home We are now enjoying life in Southern Arizona. As we get our place up and running, we will begin selling eggs once more, along with produce and other items.

This page founded by; Lee, Angela, & CJ (06/20/2012) Lee is now a "Dam Guide" with the Bureau of Reclamation at Hoover Dam. We are living in Boulder City NV. We are homeschooling CJ. She enjoys the many opportunities to learn at the areas where Lee works. She wanted to swim with turtles, and she has a few times now. We are still in the process of looking for property to buy that we might be able t

o become a little more self-sustainable. CJ really wants to get into the farming with a garden, chickens, and goats. It would be nice to have Thunder closer that we could work with him daily. A home in the country would also help with CJ’s homeschooling.

Tribute to Maggie
Today we said goodbye to our sweet Maggie. She passed peacefully overnight, warm, safe, and wrapped in love.

Maggie didn’t have an easy start in life. We were warned she might never get along with other animals, that she might always carry her past with her. But over time she proved everyone wrong. She became part of our family — not just with us, but with all the animals on the homestead. The cats loved her. The kittens adored her. She found her place among them all.

Some of my favorite memories will always be the simple ones: playing fetch, taking her down to the lake, watching her chase the ball into the water and swim with that determined little dog paddle. Those were her happiest days, and she lived them fully.

The last few years were harder for her. Age caught up, her hearing and eyesight faded, and she slowly became more of an inside dog. She still loved to wander and explore, even when she’d get lost and we’d have to guide her back home. She never stopped being curious. She never stopped being gentle.

She was a good dog. A loyal companion. A part of our family in every way that matters.

I’m going to miss her smile — that soft, trusting look she gave when she felt safe and loved. She will be deeply missed, but I’m grateful she spent her final years surrounded by comfort, warmth, and the people and animals who loved her.

Rest easy, Maggie. You were loved more than you’ll ever know.

Even though the well has run dry, life still finds a way.

Hey everyone—just wanted to share a quick update and a little brightness from the land. As of now, the well has officially run dry. We're still working on estimates for the repair, and the amount needed remains about the same. It’s a tough situation, but your support continues to keep us going.

And in the midst of all this, something rare and beautiful happened: this morning, we welcomed a pair of twin ducks! Twin ducklings are incredibly uncommon, and their arrival feels like a small miracle—reminding us that even in dry times, life surprises us with hope.

Check out the photo of the new arrivals in the comments! Your contributions don’t just help restore water—they help sustain the life that depends on it. Thank you for being part of this journey.

Dear Friends,
We've received estimates for restoring potable water, and it's clear we're facing significant challenges. The ongoing lack of water has forced us to make some difficult choices: we're minimizing our goat herd and foregoing a garden this year—both painful but necessary steps.
Even so, our hope remains strong. It's carried by the generosity of those who have already contributed and those who may still lend their support. Your kindness not only brings us closer to clean, safe water—it reminds us that we're not alone in this fight.
Thank you for standing with us, today and always.

Update on Our GoFundMe & Heartfelt Thanks
We wanted to take a moment to share an update on our GoFundMe and express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported us so far. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to us during this difficult time, and we are truly humbled by the outpouring of love and encouragement.
Thanks to your contributions. We are getting there, but we have a long way to go. Every donation, share, and message of support has made a difference, and we couldn't be more thankful.
If you're able, please continue to spread the word—we are still working towards our goal, and every bit of help brings us closer to restoring a vital resource that impacts all of us.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. 💙

Merry Christmas from our home to yours. Lee also wishes everyone a merry Christmas too.

Outside christmas decorations are almost done, all the lights are up. Only thing left to do is make the decorations for the tree in the duck area. We still have inside the house to decorate too.
