Peaks Island Elementary School Established in 1832, Peaks Island School is the heart of our island community. We are committed to academic excellence and sustainable practices.

Peaks Island Elementary School is one of two island schools belonging to the Portland Public School District. With a student population of 43, small, multi-age classrooms allow teachers and staff to build strong relationships with each and every student. Our school offers a safe, engaging and equitable learning environment for all, with high expectations for students as scholars and as community m

embers. Our interdisciplinary, standards-based curriculum provides our students with meaningful learning opportunities through hands-on and experiential projects. At Peaks, we are just beginning our journey toward becoming a green and sustainable school. Students and staff began this work in earnest this year with our first official project-based learning unit, RRR-Evolution (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) during which all members of the school were deeply immersed in rich learning experiences regarding how to better our waste-reduction practices for the benefit of our school, our community and our planet. We are excited to continue the work we've started this 2015-2016 school year.
