It may take longer for American Black Belt Academy students to qualify for their black belts than some newer, more contemporary Taekwondo school require. We believe getting a black belt fast isn’t better. All belts are earned at the individual ‘s pace and are measured by skills and maturity, not a timeline. The amount of time someone spends getting to black belt isn’t standardized but promotion from one black belt to the next is, and it takes years. American Black Belt Academy applies the standards to the levels prior to black belt.

🥋 MDK NATIONAL SPARRING TEAM 🥋

Ranked Top 3 in the United States 🇺🇸

On June 13, 2026, during our Belt Ceremony, we celebrated two remarkable milestones in our MDK family.

🔥 Xernaya earned her 2nd Dan Black Belt!
🔥 Julieta earned her 1st Dan Black Belt!

These promotions represent far more than a new belt. They are the result of years of sacrifice, discipline, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to becoming the best versions of themselves.

MDK (Modern Day Knight) National Sparring Team is one of the premier taekwondo sparring programs in the country, currently ranked Top 3 in the United States. Our athletes train in a program specially designed for Olympic-style sparring, practicing three times per week for 90 minutes each session.

But at MDK, our mission goes beyond winning medals.

Athlete First. Fighter Second.
Character Comes Before Athletic Accolades.
Leadership Over Gamesmanship.

We strive to develop athletes who:

At first, they wiggle.

They look around.
They get distracted.
They have a hard time standing still.

And that's okay. ❤️

Because children aren't born with focus.

It's something they learn.

One class at a time.
One reminder at a time.
One small success at a time.

Slowly, they begin to listen longer.
Pay attention more.
And take pride in doing their best. 😊

The goal isn't perfection.

The goal is growth.

And sometimes, the most meaningful progress happens in the moments no one else notices.

They Don't Start Focused…
They Learn It, One Class at a Time.

Eight years ago, they were just little boys in oversized uniforms.

Last Saturday, they stood before us as 2nd Degree Black Belts.

What happened in between wasn't talent.

It was thousands of small decisions.

Showing up when they didn't feel like it.
Trying again after failure.
Getting back up after disappointment.
Choosing discipline over excuses.

Many children start.

Very few stay.

At ABBA, fewer than 1% of students earn the opportunity to test for 2nd Degree Black Belt.

That is why this moment is so special.

Because this isn't the story of a black belt.

It's the story of parents who never stopped believing.
Instructors who never stopped guiding.
And two young men who never stopped showing up.

The Greatest Power in Life is Discipline.

Last Saturday, Riley and Brayden proved exactly why. ❤️

At 4 years old, this may look like a simple stretch before class.

But it's so much more than that. ❤️

It's learning to follow directions.
Learning to be part of a group.
Learning to try something new, even when it feels unfamiliar.

For many children, growth doesn't start with big achievements.

It starts with small moments like this.

Participating.
Doing their best.

And little by little, those small moments become confidence, discipline, and resilience. 😊
