Northern Vermont Astronomy Club

Northern Vermont Astronomy Club NVTAC hosts monthly meetings in association with Northeast Kingdom Astronomy Foundation (NKAF).

Northern Sky Observers Club (NSOC) is a brand new astronomy club that is based in the Northern Skies Observatory (NSO) in Peacham Vermont. Our mission is to educate ourselves on the night sky of Northern Vermont. With the aid of Northeast Kingdom Astronomy Foundation (NKAF), we have been meeting for the past six months inside of NSO's walls. Our meetings have consisted of education, coupled with o

bservation with the Magnus/Wanzer telescope. Club members are being trained on how to assemble the images taken on the night of observation, and producing scientifically correct photo of distant objects in our night sky.

It has been a truly frustrating spring and summer for observing the night skies, but this coming Friday, July 18 looks very promising! The moon will be crescent, the skies will be dark, and we should have a glorious Milky Way arcing overhead! We'll have telescopes on the lawn to observe a variety of wonderful deep sky objects, so it will be quite a treat!

Skies won't be really dark until 10 PM, but we should start to see things at 9"30 PM. Park in the Peacham School parking lot and follow the lights up the driveway to the Northern Skies Observatory! Please leave flashlights at home and bug spray will be a great idea! Please check theis NKAF page for last minute weather information!

Attention Astronomers. As many of you know, this Friday night, there will be a lunar eclipse that will viewable in our area. Christian Bradley Hubbs and I would like to invite you all to the Fairbanks Museum for an eclipse watch party. Details will follow shortly for times and parking.

A big thank you to all that attended the Northeast Kingdom Astronomy Foundation star party this evening. It wonderful to see the turnout that gathered. Also, a big thank you to all that drove up from Boston to attend. You guys amaze us and we are always happy to see you.

Even though we expect rain on Wednesday, it looks as though it will clear out for Friday evening! So, join astronomy enthusiasts for our late August star party at the Northern Skies Observatory, Friday, August 30, starting at 8:30 PM.

The moon is a thin waning crescent, so we should have good dark skies to see lots of amazing deep sky objects!

The mosquitoes have been active, so bug spray is a good idea, and bring a sweater! Please leave your flashlights at home - the driveway up to the observatory from the Peacham School parking lot is lit!
