Happy Friday!

We had our Semester 1 visit to ROOT in Salem this afternoon to take a tour, learn about the program, and have a delicious lunch.

ROOT is a culinary training program that specializes in both life skills and knife skills, giving youth ages 16-26 a pathway to independence through career training and work readiness skills.

We have been lucky enough to send four PLA students to ROOT over the last several years, including current student, Chris, who will graduate ROOT later this month, and two other former PLA students, Mason & Travis, who both were active in the ROOT kitchen on our visit today.

We are hopeful about sending more PLA students to ROOT this January to join their spring cohort, where they will earn high school culinary credits while also participating in this amazing opportunity.

Welcome to the newest members of our PLA family - Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Rafael! 💙🐢💜🐢♥️🐢🧡🐢

These Blanding’s turtles will be living at PLA throughout the winter months and will be released back into the wild in the late spring. They are part of a Headstart Program through Mass Wildlife to help these threatened species thrive in their infancy and boost native population levels.

A big thanks to our PLA student turtle experts, Carlos and Maya, who spent hours this week getting our tank ready for our new guests.

Thanks to the students and teachers of the PLA who made our annual half day “Friendsgiving” possible, and to the PLA alums who came through on their breaks from college and work to visit our little school in the mall.

Friday was Graduation Day at PLA! A huge congratulations to all of our graduates! Regardless of whether you spent three months or three years with us, you chose “the [road] less traveled by” and we were so happy to watch you turn those tassels.

Just a reminder PLA alumni: we would LOVE you have you come visit us this week (before Friday’s graduation) anytime during school hours (between 7:20-2). Of course, you are all also welcome to join us AT graduation, which will be at 10:30 in the mall. Hope to see some of you soon!

We had an awesome field trip to Maudslay State Park today with our wonderful mindfulness coach / yoga teacher, Anna Finkelstein. As the year winds to a close and seniors wrap up their final week, there are a few important truths we wanted to acknowledge as a school: We have grown so much, and we are grateful for each other!

Calling all PLA alumni!

We are putting together a special project for PLA graduation this year and want your help. It won’t take more than a minute of your time. Stop by the PLA during school hours (7am-2pm) Monday - Friday anytime between now and Wednesday, May 24th.

Of course, you are also all welcome to attend PLA’s Graduation in the mall on Friday, May 26th at 10:30 as well.
