I'm excited that reading guru Judy Ramírez and I will be speaking Saturday at the annual conference of the California Association for Educators of Young Children. The topic is "A Sound and Sounds-Based Foundation for Early Literacy." This will be our first formal presentation together and the debut of the first product from Black Swan Learning, an instructional reading app for children called Black Swan Reading.

My life changed in many beautiful ways when I joined up with the love of my life, Diane Dick. After living 30 years in the Arizona desert, I moved up to the mountains to be with Diane. Springtime is a little different here. Snow day Sunday!

Guy Kawasaki, in his book _Art of the Start 2.0_, shares this quote from Reid Hoffman: “If you are not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you’ve launched too late.”

Though we have some exciting prototypes and some encouraging classroom experience, Black Swan Learning doesn't yet have a product to be embarrassed about. Check out the cool swag I found in my mailbox today, from Language Transfer: branded pencils, pens, cards, and pencil boxes. Language Transfer is the creator of the most powerful language courses anywhere, and they make them available FREE for the clicking.

Proprietor Mihalis Eleftheriou is the Richard Stallman of language learning. As Stallman invented open-source software, so my great friend Mihalis has invented open-source language learning.

To support our work with StarShine Academy towards the Global Learning XPRIZE, Black Swan Learning has commissioned Mihalis to develop a state-of-the-art course for learning Swahili. Once it is completed, it will be available free to all XPRIZE competitors (and anyone else who wants to learn Swahili!).
