March 15, and 16 will be the 19th annual GLH softball classic. PHS has been hosting this tournament since 2004. This year we will host 16 teams. As coaches we ask ourselves, and our athletes what is your why? What motivates you? That’s always a tough question to ask, and to answer. I will tell you a little bit about my why for continuing to run this tournament. My motivation, and my why for continuing Gracie’s legacy is simple I do it for one of my high school coaches, and forever friend. Her name is Bobbie Jo Haught. She is Gracie’s mama. She has and always will be such an inspiration to me. She is always so positive and so uplifting. She’s encouraging yet courageous. She is so strong yet has the softest, and kindest heart. I would like to think I coach like that too. She is one of my biggest backers in coaching softball at the high school and one of my biggest fans. I will be forever grateful for her wisdom, and leadership. And even more grateful for her hugs. It’s been nothing short of an honor to continue hosting this tournament for my third year in honor of her baby girl. Those reading this take a second and read about Gracie. And I wanted to start something new. Those of you that attend this tournament this upcoming weekend if you see a ladybug take a picture and post it on here. Bobbie Jo always said when she sees a ladybug that’s Gracie letting us know she is with us! Last year I seen so many ladybugs and felt the spirit of Gracie all over! I hope you will come out and support our lady longhorns this upcoming weekend! It will be a fun and competitive weekend! We will have lots of goodies there as well. We will be selling T-shirts, and hats at Rumsey 1 Ramada. There will also be Gila Hogs, Kona ice, and Lee’s Kettle Shack there for all of your cravings!

I’m not sure where to even begin with saying thank you to people, but first and foremost I want to start by thanking my husband Bryan Burke for making this tournament happen and making it run so smoothly. Without you we all know this wouldn’t have taken place. We battled rain, muddy fields, 4-5 inches of water and still made it happen. Thank you just doesn’t seem like enough. To the dads of our PHS softball crew you know who you are thank you from the bottom of my heart. They raked, shoveled, Bucketed water off fields, they chalked, they did everything sun up to sun down getting these fields playable thank you!!!! Huge thank you to my family and my friends who donated their time for shirt sales, and did everything I asked without hesitation. Thank you! Town of Payson, and PHS maintenance staff thank you for your hard work on the fields and everything in between. Huge thank you to PHS JV softball, PHS football/baseball kids were out there donating their time for field prep. Lees kettle shack, Gila hogs, and Kona ice thank you! SPecial thank you to Gila hogs for feeding our umpires for free, and Kona Ice donating 20% proceeds to PHS softball I can not thank you guys enough. Special special thank you to our sponsors RVN3, MSA, MHA, Waste management, tonto silk screen, Payson eye care, Mazatzal hotel and casino, and quality pumping. Last but not least thank you to my girls who made the upper championship bracket and got better this weekend. You girls make all of this worth it. To the Haught family we played for you this weekend and we hope we made you proud.

Come out this Friday and Saturday to our 17th annual Gracie Haught Classic softball tournament!
We will have Gila Hogs, Lee’s Kettle Shack, and Kona Ice! We we be selling T Shirts, Trucker Hats, and Bucket hats! Payson will be at Kiwanis east field all day Friday and Saturday!
We are hosting 20 teams this year with one of the most competitive brackets we’ve seen! Be sure to wear a pink shirt in remembrance of our sweet Gracie! Don’t miss out!

AIA has extended its “No Tournaments” policy to the Spring Sports. With this in mind we have cancelled this years Gracie Haught Classic. We will be making plans for 2022 and will look forward to a great tournament then. Thank you for all the interest and continued support!

Looks positive softball season is going to happen however we still don’t know if tournaments will be allowed. Due to AIA pushing back the season start we have tentatively rescheduled again for April 1-3rd. Stay tuned, everything is subject to further change!

Due to the start of the 2021 season being pushed back by AIA we will be changing the tournament start date. This Springs tournament will be March 18,19 & 20, 2021. We will email all last years attendees right after the new year!
