What a wonderful day Saturday was! Thank you to all former and current staff members, past and present students, distinguished guests and community members who came by to celebrate 100 years of excellence at Slater Middle School. We appreciated the tireless work of committee members Danielle Bishop, Roberta King, Diane Clift, John Cote, John Carvalho, Debbie Scarpelli, Daniella Magana, Ariel Castillo, Walter Guest, Joe Fleming and Merry Caswell. Gratitude also goes out to our donors, sponsors and supporters: Aramark Food Services, After 5 Party Rentals and James Rocha, Palagi Ice Cream and Adam Palagi, the Pawtucket Mayor’s Office, The Pawtucket School Department, The Pawtucket Marching Band under the direction of Charles Kalajian, Alumnus Colonel Ray Horoho, The Mooney Family, Walter Guest, Joe Fleming, Roberta King and Merry Caswell. We also thank Mayor Don Grebien, School Committee Chair Omar Reyes, School Committee members Joanne Bonollo and Jim Chellel, Councilman Clovis Gregor, Assistant Superintendent of Schools Lee Rabbitt and chief Operating Officer Mark Andrade for participating. We hope to see all former Slater students, faculty and staff next Saturday, June 7, 2025 from noon to 3 PM at the school to celebrate 100 years of excellence! A short speaking program will begin at 12:30 PM with congratulatory remarks by Mayor Grebien, Principal Danielle Bishop, and Acting Superintendent Randy Buck. Former Principals Walter Guest and Merry Stanley Caswell will talk about the history and many highlights of the school. The Palagi Ice Cream Truck will also be at the school for refreshments. The Pawtucket District-wide School Band will entertain us with the national anthem and other tunes.
Come back to the best school in America to celebrate all that that’s good about a neighborhood school. Past yearbooks, photographs, and mementos will be on display, and tables will be set up by decade so that you can reconnect with old friends.
As the saying goes, “ It’s in the bricks!” While the building might be losing some of its luster, what has been transpiring for 100 years inside has brought joy and inspiration to thousands of students and staff members. See you next Saturday!

Three weeks from today, Saturday, June 7, 2025, we are hoping many of you will join us at the 100th anniversary of Slater Middle School. The event starts at noon and goes until 3 PM. There will be a brief speaking portion at 12:30. Tables will be set up by decades so that you can reconnect with friends and classmates from your time at Slater. We’ll also have a pictorial display and yearbooks out for you to look at. The Shea food truck will be there so you can get a bite to eat while reminiscing. Share this information with other friends and Slater families. Many former Slater staff members will also be in attendance. Come back to “the best school in America!”

Remember…

…. The musical performances (The Wiz, Grease, Little Shop of Horrors, Annie), the Rocky Point and Six Flags trips, the Wall of Fame, dances, the Thanksgiving Dinner, Grinder Night, Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance Awards, the Steppers and Cheerleaders, Slater’s championship basketball teams, Science Fairs, A+ Adventures, the Eighth Grade Graduation Trips, intramural sports, the many afterschool clubs, band and chorus, honors night, making pillows, cookies, wooden shelves and birdhouses, computer and type classes, Project PASS classes, the Stock Market Game, the Slater News, tv’s in the classrooms, the boys’ and girls’ gyms, up and down staircases, the dress code, Project Jump, the Health Center, COZ programs, ski trips, Mock Trial, Hot Chocolate and Cookies at Christmas, pizza and sundae parties, selling pies, field trips, camping trips, mountaineering and trips to Mt. Monadnock, school spirit week, Feinstein community service projects, DARE, Slater being named one of the best schools in New England….

Start spreading the news! Slater Middle School is turning 100 years old. We will celebrate this milestone and the many accomplishments of the students and staff on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from noon to 3 PM at the school on 281 Mineral Spring Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.

All current and former students are encouraged to come.. All current teachers, former Slater teachers, teacher assistants, secretaries, custodial staff, cafeteria workers, affiliated program personnel, families, neighbors, and friends are also invited to attend.

The event will begin at noon, and there will be a brief speaking program at 12:30 PM. Slater principal Danielle Bishop will welcome guests, and current Mayor and Slater alumnus Don Grebien will offer congratulatory remarks. Former principals Walter Guest and Merry Stanley Caswell will also speak about the history of the school.

Slater student council members will provide tours of the school. There will also be a pictorial display of artifacts, articles, and photographs of Slater throughout the years. Past yearbooks will also be available to view.

Come home to Slater to renew acquaintances, celebrate Slater highlights, reminisce about the Rocky Point/Six Flags trips, the Slater musicals, the numerous sports teams, the Wall of Fame, favorite classes, extra curricular clubs, and so much more that made this school so special!
