Pawling had their annual Barbeque for seniors yesterday! It was a nice time hanging out with friends and catching up after the weekend. The food, snacks and drinks were very enjoyable. (Also, the ice cream was amazing -- it was like our own personal ice cream bar with a bunch of different toppings to add!)

We also got to enjoy a bunch of outside games such as frisbee, bean bag toss and volleyball. We also had the opportunity to go on the kayaks and enjoy the lake, too. It was a fantastic start to summer!

At the end of last week we did another senior activity -- our boards! First all the seniors signed the big class board, and then we created little boards and signs with our colleges and post-graduation plans. It was interesting to hear about all the different school mascots and their names. It was also a nice way of looking forward to the future and what is yet to come!

The boards will be displayed at graduation this year (and the countdown has officially begun -- 11 days and counting). 🎓⏱

The senior activities have begun! 🎓 Today we decorated our caps for graduation. It was so much fun being able to see everyone's cool ideas and how they incorporated many different elements into their caps. It was also a great chance to catch up with friends and hear about plans after graduation. Can’t wait for the next senior activity! 🐯

The 11th Annual Science Research Symposium was the best one yet! ⚛

After being part of the program for three years (and with this being my final year), it was an incredible way to conclude this experience. It’s always really cool to see the creativity behind the sophomores’ projects and to watch the juniors complete the projects they’re truly passionate about. It’s also a special moment to celebrate the seniors for the dedication and hard work we’ve put into our research.

One of the highlights for me was getting to present in the auditorium and walk through my project. It was a proud moment that helped me reflect on how much I’ve grown, both as a student and as a researcher!

It was such an amazing experience being able to do this interview with Dr. Fontana. It was so exciting getting to know her and how she came to be the Superintendent of Pawling. Thank you to Pawling Living for giving me this opportunity!

If you received this month's copy of Pawling Living magazine, you may have noticed that our talented Communications Intern, Pawling senior Kathleen Galluscio, was published! 🌟

Kathleen interviewed our very own Superintendent Dr. Kim Fontana about her career and time at Pawling -- and then Dr. Fontana turned the tables and interviewed Kathleen! The result? A heartfelt, full-circle story celebrating leadership, learning and the power of student voice.

Congratulations, Kathleen! And thank you, Dr. Fontana, for your years of service and for always championing student perspectives. 🐯

AP Government and Macroeconomics students recently enjoyed a visit from the Dutchess County Board Of Elections. The amazing representatives went over the importance of voting and how to vote. We learned about the different types of voting and how to apply for absentee ballots. We also looked into the different elections that happen every year. This very informative presentation ended with eligible students having the opportunity to register to vote! 🐯

Myself and my peers in the AP Government class visited Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s house last week! It was an amazing experience to walk through history and see all the accomplishments of one the favorite U.S. presidents.

The tour guides were going in depth about the history of FDR’s life and what he did for our country. Going through the house was like entering a time capsule where all the art and furniture was exactly the same as when FDR lived there. It was interesting to learn that this was the house he was born in and lived in his whole life. We were then taken to the FDR museum, which was beautifully designed. Information about FDR and his time as president covered the walls, creating a very engaging experience. I also enjoyed how they had spaces dedicated to his wife, Eleanor Roosevelt, and all she had accomplished.

My personal favorite part was going through historical documents and learning about how FDR approached Pearl Harbor. There wasn’t a dull moment throughout this whole trip and I would love to go back again!

We've had some new additions to our Pawling High School library! Ms. Magnesio has been getting a lot of requests for romance novels which have been added to our library in addition to new horror books.

I am currently reading "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder," which has been captivating. There is something for everyone in the library, so please come and visit. You won’t be disappointed! 🐯

Last week the Pawling High School Thespians performed the musical "Mean Girls." As someone who has seen the annual Pawling High School play for the past four years I can confidently say this was one of their best performances.

Every character was accurate and performed so beautifully that you would have thought you were watching the movie. The sets and costumes really enhanced the performance and added to the play. It was the perfect mixture of laughter and life lessons combined. Everyone was excellent! 🐯

Pawling Middle School had their annual STEAM science fair last week, and science research program and science honor society students (including me!) spent time judging their presentations.

I was delighted to see these students encouraged to research topics that interest them the most. Topics included the science behind marshmallows, albinism, cereal, volcanos and density. I got to hear these students present and see the excitement on their faces as they showed me their hard work.

Reflecting on how I was once a young student scientist presenting to upperclassmen made me see how important these events are in helping young students find what makes them happy. This was definitely an experience I will cherish. At the end of the event we chose the top winners for each grade. It was a fantastic event! 🐯

Pawling High School's Physics and Intro to Engineering classes recently had a guest speaker!

Ms. Renee Lathrop from the Dutchess Community College engineering program came and talked to the students about the endless possibilities with engineering. Ms. Lathrop made an amazing presentation about the numerous jobs, pathways, and opportunities that come with pursuing engineering. Thank you to Mrs. Verhagen & Mrs. McGrail for organizing this speaker and to Ms. Lathrop for coming to Pawling High School! 🐯
