It's not every day that we get a chance to host NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Amanda Lefton at the Adirondack Watershed Institute! Thank you for taking the time to visit us on the campus of Paul Smith's College!

It was a great chance to share what our AWI team is working on across the Adirondacks, from keeping invasive species out of our lakes to better understanding road salt impacts, harmful algal blooms, and changing lake and stream health.

We’re so fortunate to have such a strong partnership with DEC. Their collaboration and support help make so much of our work at AWI possible, and we’re grateful for the chance to continue working together to protect the waters that make the Adirondacks so special.

What can 82,000+ boat inspections tell us about wake boats in the Adirondacks?

This summer, AWI took a closer look at wake boat activity using data collected through our Aquatic Invasive Species Spread Prevention Program.

Where are wake boats being launched? When are they most active? And how common are they compared with other watercraft?

Our 2026 data offer a first look and provide a foundation for understanding how wake boat use may change over time.
