1970s: Groove, Soul & Feel-Good MusicThe era of psychedelics, colors, bell bottoms and the breakup of the Beatles in 1974. Disco emerged on the music scene giving fame to artists like Donna Summer, The Bee Gees, KC and the Sunshine Band and more. The 1970s brought us a kaleidoscope of musical influences. James Brown was a Soul/R&B icon in the 1960s but became the King of FUNK in the 1970s.

The 1950s gave birth to rock & roll, a sound that brought together rhythm, blues, gospel, country, and youth culture. Songs from this decade helped make the electric guitar a star and gave young people a new musical voice.

The 1950s changed music forever by shifting from the smooth orchestra sounds of the 1940s to a bold new era of rhythm, electric instruments, and youth culture.

At DECADES, our artists will tell the story of how music evolved across generations — and why these songs still matter today.

🎤 Join us Sat, June 27 at 7pm for DECADES, our 5th Annual Spotlight Show.

This year’s Spotlight Show is called DECADES — a musical journey through the greatest songs of the last 80 years. Our students will perform music from the 1950s through today while learning the stories behind the songs that shaped culture, generations, and community.

Also, it’s no surprise that our coaches are invested to train AND also have fun role playing as performers.
