In medicine and anatomy, the special senses are the senses that have specialized organs devoted to them: vision the eye; hearing the ears smelling the nose taste the tongue and touching the body.

Smell

The principle function of the special sensory receptors is to detect environmental stimuli and a process of genetic recombination in bacteria in which genes from a host cell (a bacterium) are incorporated into the genome of a bacterial virus (bacteriophage) and then carried to another host cell when the bacteriophage initiates another cycle of infection energy. These are then conveyed along sensory neurons to the central nervous system, where they are integrated and processed, and a response is produced.
What is proprioceptive sense?
This is a review of the proprioceptive senses generated as a result of our own actions. They include the senses of position and movement of our limbs and trunk, the sense of effort, the sense of force, and the sense of heaviness. Receptors involved in proprioception are located in skin, muscles, and joints.
