Here are a few tips for parents to help prevent summer slide, 25-30% of what was learned during the school year. I find that both younger and old students enjoy these types of activities once the screens are put down. Keep encouraging your child to read. Writing and Math tend to be overlooked so get out those journals and share writing with your child and work on some real world math. I have many memories of working with my mom at "the table" over summer. I didn't love it then but realized how great it was once I would go back to school after summer and had such an easy transition to the next grade. We can play and work over summer. It does make a difference!
