Just a few weeks ago, there were kids all over this place with half-zipped backpacks and Very Important Stories they absolutely had to tell someone right that second, Kindergartners missing front teeth, middle schoolers who were suddenly taller than everybody, kids laughing so hard at lunch they could barely breathe, and someone always running down the hallway a little too fast.
There were kickball games at recess, teachers repeating directions, lockers slamming shut, Mr. Scott calling down the hallway that class was about to start, and little kids somehow waving with their entire bodies when they spotted someone they knew.
Today, those same hallways are filled with paint, new flooring, boxes, and classrooms turned upside down. It’s exciting to watch the school being refreshed for another year, and all this chaos and mess reminds us who we’re doing it for.
It’s all for these loud, bright, joyful kids who fill this place with life every single day. They’re the reason we paint the walls, replace the floors, move the furniture, and do it all over again each summer.
We can’t wait to trade the paint cans for backpacks, the construction mess for laughter and learning, and for these hallways to once again be filled with half-zipped backpacks, Very Important Stories, and smiling faces.
