For the second consecutive year, an educator from the ESD 123 region has earned Washington's highest teaching honor. Kori Cannon, a kindergarten teacher at Westgate Elementary School in the Kennewick School District, was named the 2027 Washington State Teacher of the Year during the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction's (OSPI) annual Educator of the Year Awards ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 10, in Olympia.

Congratulations to Kennewick School District multilingual learner kindergarten teacher Kori Cannon and Washougal School District multilingual learner paraeducator Dana Wilson. Cannon is the 2027 State Teacher of the Year. Wilson is the 2026 State Classified School Employee of the Year.

“Public education is about providing access and uplift to all students and their families,” said State Superintendent Chris Reykdal. “Kori Cannon and Dana Wilson work in diverse communities with students who may be learning English or speak a language other than English at home. Their commitment to building structures and systems to support these students benefits everyone in the community and is exactly what we should be doing in public education."

Cannon and Wilson received the honor earlier today at the annual Educator of the Year Awards.

Build your ed tech toolbox this fall! Join ESD 123 for Education Technology for Teaching and Learning, a four-part online series designed to help educators build practical technology skills they can put to use in the classroom.

Each session will focus on a different tool:
• Oct. 19: Google Docs & Slides
• Oct. 26: Canva
• Nov. 2: Padlet
• Nov. 9: NotebookLM

Sessions are held online from 4-5:30 p.m. and include interactive demonstrations, guided practice and examples of classroom applications.

Register once and attend all four sessions or just the ones that fit your needs. Clock hours are awarded based on attendance, with participants able to earn up to 6 clock hours throughout the series.
