It’s August! We are full for the upcoming school year.

Things to note about the Haven.

We are a skilled based, Montessori inspired school. With that being said we have created an atmosphere where starting from the beginning at Preschool or Kindergarten, will benefit your child the best.

The haven is also a belief in philosophy. If you are taking an early education spot you are basically saying this is what I want for my child’s education throughout their primary and intermediate school career. We know things happen, but Please take that seriously when filling one of our spots. Spots are limited.

Last thing, 😊 we will not have any openings for 1st grade and up if all our cubs continue to return for probably at least a couple years. We pride on being able to provide the best tutoring experience possible.

The silo saga continues!

The benefit of hands on learning is a lot of hands on stuff. But… the benefit of having a mentor who has always taught integrated units is that I have finally pinned the biggest content areas and units with most WA standards.

Day 4: Our high-school visitor today got us ready with some 4th of July attire! She as well shared her advice from experience and like all, the cubs admired her when she walked in. Thank you Averie for joining us today!

Day 3: Once again our guest highschooler didn’t disappoint. The kids are getting better at interviewing and a direct quote from a cub was “I love having them here.” 🥰 Nolan’s advice on goals, being active, and sparking curiosity prompted more questions within the cubs. He helped them make a time capsule and then had a fun STEM activity.

Day 1: This summer camp is themed Dear Diary. We are reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Unicorn Diaries but we are slowing down and enjoying the story, discussing, laughing, connecting, finding the joy in it. During this time other children are building robotic arms. Also a timed math session to keep polished on past skills. We also settled in with our expectations and routines. The reasons children get extra trust because there is a clear expectation, follow it and be careful (It’s the Montessori way). If you don’t there is a consequence. Luckily they are usually minor. 😀The rest of our camp days will be filled with guest highschool students to share their school experiences and of course in the words of Gregory’s dad “Get outside and be active.”

Summer Tips from your Tutoring Service:

Read at least 20 minutes a day, you reading to them and them reading to you! Make this a shared moment. Find a great series you both enjoy and make it special.

Write: Go find a cool journal from hobby lobby or craft warehouse. Have them pick one out and make their own diary or Journal. They can write, make a scrap book with pictures and stickers, write about their summer experiences.

Math is math. Find an engaging way for them to keep sharp on their skills. Whether that’s iPad, card games, workbooks if that is their jam.

Last but not least make it a part of the routine with consequences, just like chores. You don’t read 30 mins, you haven’t earned your phone or tablet time. Oh you did your writing you earned an extra 15 mins.

Argument: Well if I make them do it they won’t enjoy reading. These days they have to learn to enjoy it or at least tolerate it. Reading and writing are essential cognitive skills and there are way too many distractions that are more fun.

Example: My 8 year old can read at a 4th grade level but can’t finish a chapter book to save his life on his own. Reading is not hard for him he just loves doing everything else because he is an active 8 year old boy. We found a book written by Tim Tebow called Shaken Young Readers edition. It’s about Tim, football, baseball, Jesus, and his path while navigating it all. All things that he loves. We found it on audible and he snuggled up to his dad and they listened and followed along in the book. We had to find a way for him to enjoy reading and now he is much better at making sure he is being a good reader so he can enjoy the book because either way its part of the routine, might as well figure out a way to enjoy it.
