At Golden Dragon Defense, we're more than a martial arts school, we're a community dedicated to helping students of all ages become the very best versions of themselves. As a proud woman-owned business, we provide authentic traditional ITF TaekwonDo instruction in a positive, family-oriented environment where children, teens, and adults can develop confidence, discipline, respect, leadership, and lifelong friendships. We also proudly offer Women's Self-Defense classes, empowering women with practical skills, awareness, and confidence both on and off the mat.

We are honored to be led by Ms. Maria Patalinghug, the only female school owner in the State of Maryland operating an ITF-sanctioned TaekwonDo school. Her dedication to preserving the traditions of ITF TaekwonDo while fostering personal growth in every student has helped make Golden Dragon Defense a place where families train together, friendships are forged, and goals become achievements.

Today, we proudly recognize Elissa Barnard, Ethan Reyes, and Cameron Engle for representing Golden Dragon Defense, Team USA, and the State of Maryland under the coaching and leadership of Ms. Maria Patalinghug at the ITF World Cup in Spain. While they did not place this time, the opportunity to compete on the world stage against talented athletes from around the globe is an extraordinary accomplishment in itself. Very few martial artists ever have the chance to represent their country internationally, and these competitors embraced that challenge with courage, determination, and sportsmanship. The lessons learned, friendships made, and experience gained will stay with them for years to come and will only make them stronger martial artists moving forward.

At Golden Dragon Defense, we believe success is measured by much more than medals. It is measured by the willingness to step outside your comfort zone, work hard toward your goals, and never stop improving. Whether your goal is earning a black belt, competing at the highest levels, learning practical self-defense, improving fitness, or simply becoming more confident, our school provides the training, mentorship, and support to help you succeed.

🇪🇸 Golden Dragon Defense at the 2026 ITF World Cup | Benidorm, Spain 🇺🇸
Three dedicated competitors from Golden Dragon Defense, under the coaching of ITF A-6-185 Ms. Maria Patalinghug, traveled to Benidorm, Spain to compete at the 2026 ITF World Cup, joining thousands of martial artists from around the globe in one of the most prestigious events in ITF TaekwonDo.
While competition is an important part of the journey, the true value of this experience extended far beyond the rings. Our competitors were challenged to push their limits, adapt under pressure, embrace new perspectives, and deepen their understanding of the art of TaekwonDo. They witnessed world-class performances, shared the floor with international athletes, and gained invaluable knowledge that will continue to shape their growth as martial artists.
Experiences like these remind us that success is measured not only by results, but by the courage to step onto the world stage, the determination to keep learning, and the commitment to becoming better than we were yesterday.

A powerful thank you to Master Tony Skinner Ms. Ashley Raines, and Global Taekwon-do Center for hosting the First State TaeKwonDo Invitational.

Our students stepped onto the mats with determination and came home victorious:
🥉 2 Bronze – 1 pattern, 1 sparring
🥈 2 Silver – 1 pattern, 1 sparring
🥇 4 Gold – 2 sparring, 2 patterns
🪙 2 First Place – Flying High Kick
🏆 1 Female Grand Champion in Sparring earned by Ms. Carly I Dan

Their performance is a testament to the 5 Tenets: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self‑Control, and Indomitable Spirit.
