Founded more than 65 years ago by a small group of Quaker families, Pacific Oaks College is dedicated to the fundamental Quaker principles of inclusion, social justice, and the valuing of every human being. The institution is known and recognized for its pioneering efforts to reduce bias within our nation's education system, and for equipping graduates with the skills they need to help people from diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and strengths uncover and realize their unique individual potentials. Pacific Oaks is known for its progressive approach to learning—valuing real-world experiences as well as academic achievements. This philosophy is embodied through opportunities such as the Credit for Life Experience option, which allows students to gain academic credit for real-world experience acquired in the workplace. Students may earn up to 24 credits in this manner—credits which can be applied toward a bachelor's degree and count toward application for an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy or Human Development. Three basic concepts underlie the educational philosophy at Pacific Oaks:
•that every individual has a fundamental worth;
•that growth is a dynamic and life-long process;
•and that every individual has a unique identity and human potential. Pacific Oaks is accredited by the WASC Senior Colleges and Universities Commission (WSCUC), and has been since 1959.

Global connections for shared purpose. 🌍💚🌿

We were honored to welcome a delegation from the National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences (NTUNHS) to Pacific Oaks Children's School for a campus tour and meaningful exchange of ideas.

Dr. Hsiao-Ling Yang, chair of NTUNHS's Department of Infant and Child Care, shared: "We were deeply impressed by your school's truly exceptional and outstanding learning environment. The discussion we had was highly inspiring and provided our team with valuable professional insights."

At Pacific Oaks, we believe early childhood education is a global conversation—one rooted in shared values of care, respect, and the belief that every child deserves a nurturing environment to learn and grow.

Happy Labor Day 💚🌿

Today, we celebrate the workers who keep our communities running—the educators, caregivers, social workers, healthcare providers, and countless others whose labor often goes unseen and undervalued.

Labor Day reminds us that rest is a right, not a privilege. That fair wages and safe working conditions aren't too much to ask. That every worker deserves dignity, respect, and recognition for the labor they contribute.
To everyone in the Pacific Oaks community taking a well-earned break today: you deserve this rest. Thank you for the work you do, day in and day out, to support children, families, and communities.

The Power of Community means becoming the mentor you never had.
Meet Victor Soto, M.A., alumnus and executive director at Pacific Oaks Children’s School. 💚🌿

After his experience working in a classroom setting, Soto was inspired by the ripple effect educators have and decided to pursue both his bachelor’s degree and his master’s degree at Pacific Oaks College.

Through his leadership roles at Pacific Oaks Children’s School, he’s had a greater impact, working with students and teachers, and, ultimately, becoming a mentor to young educators.

Yesterday, Marlowe Simms (better known by his stage name Septimius The Great) was a special guest speaker for J. Kevin Clay-Keele’s English class.

Marlowe is an international multi-award-winning entertainer, music artist, actor, and fashion designer, and won a Grammy in 2023 for his Collaboration on the Best Reggae Album The Kalling.

“School taught me not only how to find answers but also opened my mind to different ways to get the same answer...whether it’s writing music or a book, it takes multiple eyes to refine an idea and put it into paper,” says Marlowe.

In a recent conversation with Parents magazine, Constance Walsh, Ed. D., and faculty member at Pacific Oaks College School​ of Cultural & Family Psychology, explores conscious parenting and the self-examination needed to practice this philosophy successfully.

“In order to make parenting changes, we have to be aware of why we parent the way we do and how we want to change our parenting style, which can be achieved through self-reflection,” says Dr. Walsh.

When Raelynn Eubanks attended an information session for a bachelor's degree program, the supportive and welcoming environment inspired her mom to join her at Pacific Oaks to pursue a master's degree.

Raelynn went on to become a two-time PO graduate, earning her own master's degree in education and credential program, as well as working at Pacific Oaks Children's School.

Their story isn't uncommon at Pacific Oaks—a place where you can pursue your passion at every stage of life!
