Alum Summer Sunday: Alums share updates and favorite Sequoyah Memories!
*Garcia Segura ‘11 is an experiential marketing professional currently living in Los Angeles, leading campaigns and activations for global brands and clients. Most recently, he helped lead the opening of Adidas’ new flagship Originals store in New York City. When he’s not working, he’s planning his next trip, hosting his monthly DJ series, Club Teal, or spending time with his wife and their two cats, Zeus and Rumi.
💚One of his favorite Sequoyah memories is the many camping trips with his incredible teachers and peers, which helped shape who he is and continue to influence his daily life to this day.
*Clemencia Dane ’19 spent her spring semester in Copenhagen studying Global Conflict and Humanitarian Law. Upon her return to D.C., she interned at Cornerstone Government Affairs, where she worked on the grant consulting team, tracking federal funding opportunities for clients. Clemencia will be a senior at George Washington University, majoring in International Affairs and Human Services with a concentration in Global Public Health.
💚Her favorite Sequoyah memory was in the Over There class, when teachers Cynthia and Chad, let us organize a protest against the 2017 Muslim Ban and march to Pasadena City Hall. We marched as a class with our signs and statistics we had researched in math class showing that close to 0% of the individuals who carried out fatal terrorist attacks on U.S. soil came from one of the seven majority-Muslim countries included in the ban. Almost 10 years later, she carries that lesson with her and it still informs her interests and work now.
*Andrew Satoh ‘00 builds schools, offices, and warehouses across LA with his brother Chris Satoh ‘03. You can find Andrew at the beach every weekend with Ava (6), Quentin (3), and his wife Claire.
💚His favorite memories of Sequoyah are spending time with Marty in the library, root b**r float fundraisers, & visiting students at the local school in Mulege, Mexico.
