DO NOT answer or be alarmed if you get this violation text, it is a SCAM. Delete it immediately, the Courts and DMV don’t text you for tickets or violations.
"Only Text When Safely Parked" Rule:
Pull Over: If you must read or send a text, pull over to a safe location and put the car in park.
Stoplights Are Not Safe: Texting at a red light or in traffic is still dangerous and illegal in many areas because you are still in control of the vehicle.
5-Second Rule: Looking at a phone for just 5 seconds at 55 mph is like driving the length of a football field with your eyes closed.
How to Stay Focused:
Use "Do Not Disturb" Mode: Activate your phone’s Driving Focus or Do Not Disturb feature to silence notifications.
Out of Reach: Place your phone in the glove box, backseat, or trunk to remove temptation.
Designate a Passenger: Ask a passenger to handle phone calls or messages.
Plan Ahead: Set your GPS and music before you start the car.
Legal Consequences:
Texting while driving is illegal in 49 states.
In California, there is a zero-tolerance policy for holding a phone while driving, even for navigation.
Violations can result in fines, points on your license, and increased insurance rates.
