The Développé Project offers our dancers the opportunity to grow not only as performers, but as choreographers. Under the mentorship of .doede, they are given the space to craft and share original work of their own.

Choreographer Iris Dean shares about her piece:

“My piece is a combination of ballet and contemporary en pointe and focuses on bringing life into the everyday. I draw inspiration from the plants and wildlife quickly taking over the barren hills of Altadena after the Eaton Fire. Just a little over a year ago, it was a blackened landscape, but it is now a wildlife corridor filled with plants and animals. I want to represent this perseverance of life against all odds through each dancer’s connection to another.”

Summer Intensive memories!✨

Each day brings a new challenge as dancers move between styles, work with different faculty, and stretch their versatility. The week closes with a studio showcase where families and friends get a glimpse of everything the dancers have explored together.

We are counting down to another summer of bold dancing and creative discovery... are YOU?!!

Each fall, our studio transforms into a space for discovery. Dancers step into new movement languages, work with fresh choreography, and stretch beyond what feels familiar.

These performances are where growth becomes visible, where risk turns into confidence, and where new artistic voices begin to take shape. Watching them step into that moment onstage is something we never take for granted.

A glimpse into last summer’s intensives. ☀️

Dancers moved through full days of training, exploring ballet, contemporary, and tango while working closely with faculty and guest artists. Each class opened a different pathway for curiosity, risk taking, and growth in the studio.

The week culminated in a final showcase where dancers stepped into the spotlight and shared the work they built together.

We cannot wait to welcome the next group of dancers for another vibrant summer.

Each choreographer in The Développé Project brings a distinct point of view to the process. With the guidance of choreographic mentor .doede, our dancers have the opportunity to experiment, make choices, and shape original work of their own.

Choreographer Abbie Hillman shares about her piece:

“I am choreographing an abstract piece with three sections that have contrasting moods. I’m challenging myself to expand upon ballet vocabulary and explore new shapes, both with the dancers individually and as a group in the space. To choreograph, I listen to the music over and over, finding nuances and sounds that I want to express and visualizing what I want the piece to look like. I then draw out formations and pathways, and create the specific steps and shapes by improvising to the music.”
