If anyone out there is wondering why online videos don't really help your kids, you're not alone. It actually makes most students THINK they understand something they still don't.

SAT Myth : It is best to learn from someone who has achieved the perfect score.

Truth : Those who do well are usually the worst teachers. This is generally true in all sports, also - the best players make the worst coaches. They cannot relate to those who do not naturally and easily understand concepts. The best coaches are the ones who were average players who had to think their way through rather than just have things come naturally to them. For a great example of such coach, look up Earl Weaver.

A great teacher of anything must be able to relate to those who struggle with concepts. There are always exceptions to the rule (e.g. Larry Bird), but, unless your child is also a genius (or at least a potential genius), it is not a good idea to pair him or her up with a high scoring college student who really does not have any teaching experience. Just an opinion I have formed after 30 years of tutoring and observing.

Requires a PC and a Skype account. First class is free. Give it a try. I have high success rate with students who are bored with other classes or tutors. This is a true hands-on learning class where the students will be taught to work things out on their own. Those who do not like to be challenged will hate it, so there is no need to apply.

A new student just recently said this : "I thought I was doing bad in Math SAT because I was not calculating fast enough."

Now she know the real reason was because she was trying to do too many calculations and use memorized formulas. Most SAT questions are meant to be solved logically rather than numerically. If you have a tutor who encourages you to plug in numbers and test things out, that's a BAD sign. Even if you get some questions correct with that method, it will never help you become good in math.

Thanks to the pandemic I have finally gotten around to doing online classes and it's working out very well, and the students are reali loving it too. Sometimes some good comes out of the worst of the situations.
