Milk alternatives: Choose organic options with the fewest ingredients (ideally only 3) and no gums, oils or sugars. Good examples include Native Forest Organic Unsweetened Coconut Milk (simple and clean) and Three Trees Unsweetened Organic Almond Milk.

Food additives are the hallmark of ultra-processed food. If you see an ingredient you can’t pronounce or wouldn’t find in your own kitchen, it’s not food!

Guar gum and carrageenan rank as the 5th most common food additives. They have many functions to make industrial slime more like real food. 

For example, they are emulsifiers that scrub your gut causing massive disruption in our gut biome!

At the top of the list is sugar, with over 200 sneaky variations. 

Next is seed oils, loaded with inflammatory compounds and linked to diabetes, heart disease, dementia, and early death. Third are artificial sweeteners. 

They destroy your taste buds, hijack your appetite, and lead to overeating. Number four is “natural flavors” which are anything but natural. These chemical cocktails trick your biology into craving more and never feeling full. 

Also, there is no transparency from food companies stating what they are made of! Be leary vegans as there could be animal products!

The worst offender? Vegetable (seed) oils. In my view, they’re even more dangerous than sugar because they now make up the bulk of our calories, yet they don’t burn cleanly in the body and contribute to widespread inflammation.

The importance of circadian health cannot be overstated. Getting morning sunlight in your eyes is the foundation of circadian health. Keeping it dark or dim at night is the other key feature. When you do these two things you’ll be amazed how much improved your daytime, mood, focus and alertness are and how much better you’ll sleep. These are simple, zero cost protocols that produce outsized positive effects on every aspect of your health. Including immune system function, and much more.

A common question is how to get sunlight in your eyes on cloudy days. People sometimes confuse seeing the sun- which is great when it’s a clear day, with sunlight, which is what really accomplishes all this circadian health stuff. There’s still sunlight on cloudy days! You’ll just need to be outside a little bit longer in the morning to set your circadian clock.
